I receive: babies for my white Christian empire You receive: child rearing eclipsing your entire sense of self and delivering ego death (you have to accept the trade because God said so)

Amazing book and looking forward to the rest of the series, great recommendation

The media has fallen in line to Trump like a man falling in love with a physically beautiful woman who has told him to his face that she plans to poison him for the insurance payout

Maybe some nature docs/light bio pics? I agree with your indignation though, "Peril" can be judged synonymous to most narrative conflicts - which if you strip out of a long form piece of fictional media, leaves you with... slop? "Suggestive themes" and "mild language" rule out romance/comedy.

Klaxitron @klaxitron.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
Its anecdotal, but Moana got slapped with PG for "Peril" - meanwhile, in the lion king, the main character's dad is literally brutally murdered and gets a G rating

Some notable G-rated films I'd doubt would be G-rated today. Ratatouille and Lion King among them. I think in order for a film to be G-rated today, it needs to be so anodyne so as to be long-form brain rot

Should someone be allowed to say they would support you being shot? I happen to think they shouldn't, but wonder what you think.

Yeah well, you can't just pretend toxicity is riskless. It is not. History is riddled with people who lost their lives to litigated and re-litigated conflicts that often initially stem from isolated events many cheer as "justified". I have empathy for you and your family, but I wont kill over it.

Klaxitron @klaxitron.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
I'm terribly sorry, no one should have to go through what you and your family went through. But yes, I am. You don't get to play God and decide who deserves and doesn't deserve mercy because someone else did - when they shouldn't have. This shit is cyclical in unpredictable ways that never end well

Klaxitron @klaxitron.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
Vigilante violence is not an either or! Its an ALL. Because if you allow vigilante violence a little over here, you inevitably will get a different, potentially "less preferable" bit of vigilante violence over there. Reminds me of a famous quote - an injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere

The government can (and should!) prevent and stop and apprehend both the KKK and Thompson shooter. The KKK should be the higher priority, but the Thompson shooter shouldn't be celebrated either.

Klaxitron @klaxitron.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
On this, we agree that they should! Lynching is vigilante violence, which is bad on its own but made worse by the fact it is driven by unjust racial violence.

Klaxitron @klaxitron.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
If MLK theoretically had also happened to be a CEO who could bankrupt me and my family, James Earl Ray would have been 100% morally justified. Got it.

The response to incivility isn't to offset it with incivility to someone else until the levels of incivility are equal, it's to squash incivility!
000
Klaxitron @klaxitron.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
We should be civil all the time. If you get to choose to be violently uncivil to one group, what's stopping the KKK from getting to choose to be violently uncivil to another? Incivility is pernicious. No one who has ever tried to declare a monopoly on it has ever succeeded.

Klaxitron @klaxitron.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
So if "a majority of people" wanted to persecute, say, trans folks, you'd be ok with that? Yeah yeah "not the same as CEOs! Etc", but what if they were compelled by propaganda to see them that way, too?
100
Klaxitron @klaxitron.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
You know what I'm "yapping" about. You're just super imposing the word "violence" on explicitly non violent protest because you think violence is cool and that those protests help make it look cool. But no one is falling for that trick.
100
Klaxitron @klaxitron.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
Really? It means nothing that people couldn't tell that a billionaire (*) CEO won't be the champion of the people? If the median 50% of people can't, just think about how batshit insane the extreme 20% of people are who are now more emboldened by watching the masses clap for murder

Klaxitron @klaxitron.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
Actually, yes, that is my point. The more you normalize vigilantism for one "out group", the more you normalize vigilantism against all of the other "out groups". Great job, by the way, famously invoking a champion of NON VIOLENT resistance to injustice.

Let's begin the assassinations with the low hanging fruit, then we can get more ambitious. Eventually, once the system is used to it and can tolerate my insatiable assassination appetite, I can finally assassinate the head coach of my least favorite NFL team

Klaxitron @klaxitron.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
I just think not decrying them is too dangerously close to normalizing them. These things are never normalized overnight, it's always a long and gradual process, but hard to reverse once it starts
000
Klaxitron @klaxitron.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
I think that's true. I also think vigilante assassinations are bad.

Securitization is actually a very useful tool that America is unique in embracing and it has led to unmatched consumer liquidity with massive positive externalities, provided sufficient guardrails are in place *Hides behind couch*

Sorry I don't intellectually engage with people who think the illegalization of murder is an unjust law
000
Klaxitron @klaxitron.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
And also breaking unjust laws can certainly be good! But uh, what law are we calling unjust here? Ah yeah that's right the illegalization of murder!

Your support and normalization for vigilante assassination is going to get, for example, an unpopular civil rights leader killed and you're going to be wondering how that happened and comment on the decline of American morality and I'm just going to be holding a giant "I told you so" sign
