For good measure, here's the Roman carbonara that Stanley Tucci called the best in the world.

Plate of Spaghetti alla carbonara with a healthy sprinkling of pepper, grated cheese, and a few bits of crunchy guanciale on top.

Thinking about all of the Great Lakes, their rivers, and tributaries.

View of a calm inland lake in Michigan. A grassy lawn and 3 or 4 sparsely-leaved deciduous trees in the foreground. In the background, a distant view of the other side of the lake. The sky is not quite clear, with high altitude thin clouds covering the sky during a bright late-may afternoon.

Missing Up North badly this morning. Listening to loon sounds 🦆while I close my eyes and sip coffee.

A wet, Golden retriever with very light, beige-white fur, and a loose harness hanging off him. He Sits and looks attentively over a calm lake with different colors reflected from the sunset and clouds. The other side of the lake is visible with hilly terrain

In the 4 or so years I've subscribed to Shri's email list, he's barely sent stuff out. Now it's weekly since election stuff is ramping up. It's mostly rage bait, and now this very untimely message!

Screen shot of an email that has circled in red the date sent (May 8) and the first sentence of the email (¡Feliz Cinco de mayo!) To show that this was not sent on the actual date of Cinco de Mayo (May 5)

La Mura di Lucca, shared by my padrigno lucchese 🥰

A tall stone wall fortifying a medieval ciry-state, Lucca. There are buildings and trees peeking out from inside the city walls amongst the perfectly blue sky and clean green outer lawn

Thinking about the human trafficking signs in the airport bathrooms while sitting here watching AG's smug face during house hearing. We all know HSI won't be calling you back bc they're either busy terrorizing immigrants and their communities, and DOJ boss is shilling for pedos/pedo-adjacent humans

Columnar sign that says on top: REPORT HUMAN TRAFFICKING. There are things to look out for when encountering trafficked people. The tip lines are listed. There are logos at the bottom of the Reagan Airpot, DHS, and DOT

Close up of a sign: report suspected human trafficking to the Homeland Securit Investigations Tip Line: 1-866-347-2423 or Metropolitan Washington Airports Police Department

Today, it's finally AUTUMN outside!

A troll toy in a pumpkin costume, and he has green hair. He's guarding the sacred salt mill along with orange and green gourds that armor access to his valuable stores.

Risky mid-summer transplant paid off...thriving smooth asters emerge just as all my other pollinators have finished blooming and a Monarch hatched (?) in my garden 💜🧡

Four light purple flowers and many more buds. They have many skinny petals and blueish green leaves. A bee is on one flower.

Rochester, NY is doing some great stuff to add green space and access to its water-rich spaces. Also, an amazing host this weekend for the Great Lakes Conference!

Colazione di campioni 🤌🏻

White plate on a natural woven placemat with a fork on the right and glass of water on the top left. Plate features Italian bread slices stacked with fresh tomato, basil, and mozzarella, and a sprinkle of black pepper. There is no balsamic on this Caprese salad because the author despises it.

Ok, time to finally post recent garden pics!

2 sleeping bumblebees at dawn, laying atop a bunch of small pink flowers, which is rose milkweed. They look like they could be holding hands.

A long thin black insect, a little over an inch long, with a blue neon spot on on end, and a neon green and black head and small torso on the other. The damselfly is holding on to the upright, bright green, thin stem of a nodding onion. There are many out of focus bright green stems and leaves in the background.

A mix of different wildflowers including pink rose milkweed, yellow black-eyed susan, purple echinacea, purple bee balm, and a grassy brown fox sedge poking through the flowers.

What I believe to be a nymph grasshopper. Its entire body, including eyes, is a speckled grey-brown. It is sitting on the leaf of a butterfly milkweed. Above the insect are small orange flowers.
