1/ Discussions around variable #RenewableEnergy (VRE) shortage, often labeled #Dunkelflauten, can sway public opinion against the #EnergyTransition. Can we bring clarity to this debate? Absolutely! What it takes is a thorough understanding of VRE shortage periods. A thread 🧵⬇️

Slide of the day: How is the power sector transition in OECD countries going? Simply put: it is still lagging behind. In August 2023, the renewable share reached just about 30%. Note: this is excl. China and India. www.iea.org/data-and-sta...

DAC will take longer than initially thought to break even with EU ETS allowance prices. This lays out a strong incentive to invest and decarbonize sooner than later instead of betting on future technology for carbon removal.

We analyzed Germany's revised National Hydrogen Strategy focusing on key elements, planned hydrogen quantities within Germany in 2030, and Germany's import partnerships. The report is now available in English. Key take aways neatly summarized by my colleague @wpschill.bsky.social ⬇️

Slide of the day from IEA World Energy Outlook 2023: Globally, the fossil industry is still reluctant to go for low/zero carbon technologies, while a massive redistribution of wealth from the general public as energy consumers to the fossil industry's shareholders has taken place.
