That’s, if the weights were accurate on the fiber, 8.5 ounces of plied yarn on an 8 ounce bobbin. Ashford standard for scale, which holds around 4 ounces if I’m careful.
Photo of a very very very full very large plastic bobbin of 2-ply handspun yarn in shades of pink, purple, and olive green. The tips of my fingers are just barely visible behind the bobbin because of how it is giant and full to capacity, like I maybe could have gotten a little more on around the middle but only a very little.Photo of the huge bobbin of handspun next to a regular ashford standard bobbin of dark gray singles that is also at its maximum capacity. I’m holding both bobbins in one hand but truthfully it is more of a balancing than a grasp.

a backlit black and brown tabby cat lounging on a plastic folding table covered in beige fabric with an ochre floral print, rumpling it slightly. the fabric is partially cut out for the back leg pieces of a pair of trousers, and the large metal shears responsible for the cutting rest near the cat's paws. there's a cluttered desk, bench, and ironing board in the background.

what volume of grass clippings could there be on maybe a quarter of an acre of lawn, we thought, foolishly, hearts full of delusions about composting anyway turns out approximately the volume of topsoil we wanted to buy from the dirt man
Photo of the corner of a building with white siding behind a low brown raised garden bed. The visible fraction of the left portion of the bed has some soil in it but the majority of the bed is heaped with just a mountain of grass clippings. So much grass. It’s spilling out over the front of the bed, there is so much grass.

does anyone know why my potato son holds his body in such strange shapes
Photo of an orange tabby cat snoozing on a purple blanket with some knitting in the foreground (white with bits of pink and purple and blue but not important here really). He has one arm tucked under his head such that his pink little beans are peeking out, his other arm at his side doing a sort of curly tucked partway in move, also showing toe beans, a leg mostly tucked under his round belly and behind his other leg but again revealing a little bit of bean, and the remaining leg is sticking out with his toes spread. He has his funny skinny little tail trapped under his heal and a bunch of loose fluff sticking up off his haunch. The overall shape is perhaps best described as “face away from a whiteboard and draw something bouba with your non dominant hand”.

I’m still trying to banish my personal agonies and despairs with Make Big Sweater which is…not wholly ineffective but look how well that bowl my work friend made me goes with!!!! I’ve since put the sleeve stitches on hold and subsequently finished the first ball of white yarn
Photo of a black and brown tabby curled up snoozing on an acid green chair. She has her mouth and chin smashed into a ball of purple, pink, and peach yarn with her paws all tucked around it. The very long cable of a knitting needle loops behind her head to get squashed between her cheek and the arm of the chair, and the knitting attached to it is getting no sort of jammed down between the arm and seat of the chair.Photo of a brioche knitting project in progress, showing one side with the dominant stitch columns in a natural white yarn with little flecks of pink, purple, blue, and teal textured bits of threads and dyed wool nepps folded over onto the other side with the dominant columns in stripes of desaturated purple, soft baby pink, and apricot-peachy pale orange. now for something completely different (warning: jumpscare, there is a very spooky ghost in one of these photos)
Three yarn things on a white table: a warm fawn knitting project in process, a tiny skein of a fuzzy but lustrous oatmeal-ish colored yarn, and a little rectangle wooden tool with two different sized holes in the middle of an oval indent and two different sized notches on the long edges—it’s a diz and wraps per inch tool for pulling wool into uniform strips for spinning and then measuring the yarn diameter after it’s finished. The skein in the middle is the most important bit but it is also the least in focus part.A woven sample of the fuzzy-lustrous oatmeal yarn, but the white balance is messed up so it looks a lot more yellow. The top half of the sample is a plain weave but it’s quite open like craft store burlap and you can see the blue blanket behind it very clearly between the yarn ends. The bottom half is a 2-2 twill with all the diagonal lines going from upper left to lower right and it’s much denser but there are still spaces large enough to see blanket between yarns. The whole sample looks really stiff because it hasn’t been washed. There is no cat in this picture, it’s just that my lap is being entirely occupied by a very scary but also cozy blue ghost who happens to have two orange paws and a stripy orange tail which are by pure coincidence shaped very much like those parts of a cat, but again this is not a cat it is a very toasty lap ghost who is haunting me and now you also very very hardThe top part of a plywood spinning wheel showing a bobbin beginning to fill with oatmeal colored yarn. There is a slight fuzzy halo around the edges of the yarn and a satiny sheen where light is reflecting off the yarn, and a bit of unspun fluff is dangling at the bottom

I could swear I scoured this fleece years ago, it was partially fluffy and stuffed in mesh bags and didn’t even smell overmuch but this is the second dish soap soak today so if I did, I did it very very badly indeed
I’m going to be honest with you friend, this is a bucket of dirty water with some suds on top. There’s a white mesh lingerie bag and a bit of black tulle floating near the top but it’s just pretty dirty water, like if you made quite weak tea and added the tiniest bit of milk but 60% grosser.

I don’t know if the little dyed wool nepps are going to stay put in the plying, they certainly do ping comically off the singles now and then it’s coming along right to the vision so far, though I’m not sure I nailed the color scheme for the yarn this will be companion to
A 3D printed bobbin on a plywood spinning wheel holding maybe 25 to 30% of its capacity of handspun wool yarn. Mainly the yarn is a natural cream color and it had little balls of dyed wool in shades of purple, teal, and very light green, as well as short stretches of little tangles of silk thread in bright pinks, purples, and light blues.A 3D printed bobbin on a plywood spinning wheel holding maybe 25 to 30% of its capacity of handspun wool yarn. just thinkin how much less funny and wholesome this would’ve been if I’d fed it to the plagiarism machine
Two tabby cats, one black and brown, one orange, facing each other loafing on the back of a gray couch, but looking out toward the viewer. The photo has low-effort sweaters drawn over each cat in a sort of crayon brush texture. The black and brown cat on the left’s fake sweater is red with white trim and simple green trees near the bottom, and the orange cat on the right’s pretend sweater is green with white trim and simple white snowflakes at the yoke. The drawing is quite scribbly so the cats’ fur is visible between the lines and around the edges and it all took so much longer than it looks like.

Shetland fleece is delayed in the mail but fear not, the textures arrived as scheduled and a new Big Sweater project is underway I am so sorry if my rolags are a trypophobia nightmare, you can definitely put your fingers in there and nothing bad will happen it actually rules
Background is a cube storage bin mostly full of little cylinders of undyed wool with streaks of blue and purple and pink peeking through at random intervals, while in the foreground rest two hand cards, like oversized rectangular dog brushes, hand cards, not like aces and jacks playing cards, anyway there’s a pair of them stacked not in the way they’re used to prepare wool for spinning because they’re only being used as a blending board, and they’re covered in a layer of white wool and some pink and purple silk threads are being loaded on top of thatFull cube bin of little wooly cylinders, this time standing on their ends so it mostly looks like they’re all white but a few are resting on their sides on top to show the little bits of colored silk threads peeping through the outer layer

it doesn’t really look like this
Photo is a handknit cardigan in shifting stripes of purple and aqua and pink and green handspun yarn with flowery but geometric colorwork in black on the round yoke. It is laid out on blue and white gridded foam mats but diagonal to the grid because otherwise the sleeves would hang off. There are white plastic things sticking out of the top and bottom of the sweater’s button band, they’re four or eight pins set in handles to make pinning straight lines easier. The whole thing looks darker than it really is because it is really very wet.

Incoherent pile of knitting. It’s a round-yoke colorwork cardigan whose front has not been opened yet, in handspun yarn in shades of blue and green and purple and gray with black contrast. Stitches for both sleeves have been placed on a single long circular needle, which is why the whole thing looks like a tangled mess instead of a garment approaching finished.

If you are intimidated by charts, Trillian would like you to know that you need to look at less of the chart than you think. In fact, reducing the amount of chart you are looking at to just three background stitches at the end of the colorwork can drop your stress and overwhelm by 100%
A black and brown tabby snoozing in something of a blob shape on a piece of printed paper which, you will just have to trust me, contains a colorwork chart whose only visible elements are the main color/contrast color legend, a fragment of handwritten notes, and a couple of numbers. A ball of handspun yarn rests right up against her back and she has her arms tucked in under a couple zippered pouches for interchangeable knitting needles.

Body of a knit colorwork sweater made in handspun. The sweater has black geometric designs suggestive of snowflakes or flowers in black around the yoke and the main color of the sweater is blendy stripes of pinks and purples and blues.

I’m worried I have too much yarn for this project. I still have more than 2 full balls of the main color, out of 4 total, and as written, the pattern only calls for another inch of stockinette and then two inches of ribbing. Like some kind of bizarro reverse yarn chicken.
A knitted colorwork cardigan still on the needles, with a main color in blendy handspun stripes of blues and purples and grayish greens and the contrast color yoke patterning in dark grays and black. Two full center-pull cakes of additional main color yarn rest on their sides on the sleeve area of the sweater, with a third very flat partial yarn cake on top of them.

Close up on a sweater-in-progress on a human. The sweater’s stockinette edge is curling down like a comically little Peter Pan collar. It’s knit in stranded colorwork with a circular yoke, very much still on the needles and covered in stitch markers. The main color is purple, blue, and gray tones doing the soft blended stripes characteristic of a two-ply handspun, and the contrast is darker gray to black. This view is the front of the sweater which will eventually be a cardigan so the steek stitches are visible. Back view of sweater-in-progress knit in stranded colorwork with a circular yoke, very much still on the needles and covered in stitch markers. The main color is purple, blue, and gray tones doing the soft blended stripes characteristic of a two-ply handspun, and the contrast is darker gray to black. The white balance is making the colors look a lot darker and lower contrast than they really are, but this view shows the curve of the circular yoke and the short-row shaping at the back of the neck nicely.Black and brown tabby flopped on her side on a knitting project. She has her legs stretched out and she’s doing curly paws on her tummy like a little otter and one of her ears is squished over because she’s been really rolling vigorously in the knitting. Her belly is showing a little and when I reached over to pet it she started purring at an absolutely astonishing volume.

WaheyyyyyyyYYYYY we gots pots!!! There’s work to do on some feet and some rims and the spout holes for the big teapot but CRUCIALLY!!!!!!! the butter crocks still fit together post-glaze!
A collection of wheel-thrown pots in a variety of shapes glazed in blues and greens. There are: three mottled blue/purple rice bowls; a wider, shallower mottled blue/purple bowl that curves back in at the rim; a deep soup bowl with straight vertical sides after the belly in a dusty blue; a soup bowl shape with a chunk of the side missing in mossy green and turquoise colors; two mottled blue/purple teapots in the shape of round-bellied vessel with tapering spout attaching at about the fullest point of belly of the pot and a pulled handle, one with a lid that sits atop the pot and one with a lid that drops down onto a gallery and has drips of darker blue and browny-green glaze originating from that gallery; a mossy green lidded jar with horizontal ridge texturing; a smooth cylindrical jar with a slightly pointed lid in mossy green; a tiny mottled blue/purple jar with a domed lid; a small mottled blue/purple jar with a domed lid replicated at the bottom and finished with a straight foot; a mossy green, shallow, bellied vessel with a crescent-handled lid and a claw-shaped handle on one side holding a thing that looks sort of like a very stubby, very tiny chalice (it is a handle for a shaving brush); four butter crocks comprising a cylindrical lower vessel and an upper saucered bell shape, two in each of the mossy green and mottled blue/purple glazes with one of each color closed and the other disassembled to show the component parts.

Light gray clay teapot, smallish in size. The body has quite a round bellied-out shape, as does the handle. The spout, foot, and knob on the lid are quite angular. The surface has been smoothed carefully to secure the joins on spout and handle and remove most of the throwing rings.

A trio of unfired wheel-thrown stoneware clay vessels. In the back on the left, a small round jar with a fairly narrow neck and a lid perched atop with a flat little button of a knob; center, a cylinder neither particular tall nor particularly wide, a medium mug body kind of dimension; right, a classic vase shape with a narrow base coming gently outward to a generous rounded shoulder then quickly back in to a narrow neck and back out again to a rim just slightly narrower than the base.

We went to the office of collecting and design and I took photos of exactly what you’d expect me to have taken photos of
A small drawer full of metal zipper pulls. Some are reflecting little zipper pull light-birds on the white interior of the drawer.Eight sets of pyrometric cones, arranged in two columns, bending over toward the center, in a double frame.A shelf of miniature toy cows, two shelves of double rows of tiny ornate bottles, and at the bottom a shelf of miniature toy dogs.Miniature castle-style spinning wheel with white fluff on the distaff and in an adjacent bucket, a miniature treadle-powered black sewing machine, a miniature hand-cranked black sewing machine, and a miniature electric sewing machine in white with an 80s shape.

Went to springs preserve with my mom and aunt, we observed some nature, got some fresh air, counted Gila monsters with a small child (stranger)
A small yellow flower with eight narrow pointy petals and a dark purplish center.A pile of leaves with numerous rounded lobes in shades of light brown.

I mean collaring in is an important skill for making these bowls that are not useful tableware to humans (I am practicing a shape that maybe could solve my cats splashing water like dogs problem)
A slightly blurry shot of unfinished wheel-thrown pots: two dry cylinders tall and small, two enclosed forms, and two moderately sized bowls which are pretty low but with quite rounded bellies and which curve back in significantly at the top.

Novice potters can have little a gimmick, for a treat. (I have trimmed the ones on the right since taking this photo, but not well. Quite badly in fact.)
A series of unfinished wheel-thrown stoneware vessels. In the back, two narrow cylinders, one quite tall and the other about two thirds of that height. The pots in front are enclosed forms: the first two on the left look like profoundly dull gray balloons, the two on the right cylindrical with flattened dome tops and an indented section separating lid from body.

Cats also seek cable-management solutions.
An orange tabby cat looking content and cozy on a lap covered in a fluffy blue blanket. In the background his tail extends straight up between the two cushions of the back of the couch.

I hope this holiday/ordinary Thursday finds you like this
An orange tabby cat lounging on the arm of a couch like he is the slob husband in a lazy late-90s sitcom.

Round is such a beautiful look for her and no insecure rich motherfucker can take that from me
A calico cat draped over surfaces unclear (me, a human torso, that’s the surface, but you wouldn’t know from looking). She looks so comfortable, like she’s never been troubled by a skeleton in her life, but also quite serious and contemplative. Another thing you’d not be able to tell if I didn’t give you the inside scoop here is that shortly before this photo she stuck her paw in my mouth.Low angle photo of a calico cat really emphasizing the plushness of her coat and the hard-won roundness of a little returning fat reserve beneath. She’s angling her chin against her chest to set off the exquisite luxury of fluff at her chest, as if posing in a mink stole on her way into the opera, expression haughty. She has passed judgment but keeps her own counsel.

Like I mean sure, the weight on these was all wrong and handles continue to be a disaster but it’s so fun to trim the curves at the bottoms and the wee foot rings I keep going way, way too far with the foot rings but tiny foot rings are so cute and fun????
Four bone-dry stoneware vessels, three with handles (degree of success in shaping and attachment of said handles: various) and two turned over to reveal foot rings trimmed into the bases.Arguably, this is a not-that-ugly mug. It’s a bit wide and a bit short and the handle is a little skewed but it looks decent. Nevertheless, it’s reclaim now.Mug-like vessel with awkwardly shaped and sized handle. It looks likely to tip over if set on its tiny foot ring with its funny little handle reaching across the continent.
