It is looking more and more like the French are going to go without a stage win at the Tour de France Hommes for the first time this millennium – since 1999. Of course, 2026 comes with a silver lining in that we've seen the ascendancy of Paul Seixas. So: the end of an era, the start of another...?

This might just be the most important piece I've written at Escape, maybe ever (about cycling, that is!)... I feel a great deal of warmth towards Uno-X Mobility for their pride celebration, but at the same time, it's not nearly enough. Men's pro cycling has a lot of catching up to do.

Lucinda Brand has now reached 50 consecutive podium finishes on the CX bike. By my calculations, the pro women's record belongs to Marianne Vos (obvs), at just 51, only two more podiums and Brand tops the GOAT. (Van der Poel? 66. Brand could do it outright this season...)

All I see, from the time gaps of the uphill TT in particular, is that Roglič was the only one who cared even a little bit, and the deficit of Vingegaard in off-season mode (almost four minutes over 8km) is more likely to backfire on the organisers than anything else...

A curious detail of the UCI's yellow card could turn it into a sort of get-out-of-jail-free card for Van Poppel. If he gets a 2nd at the Deutschland Tour today, he'll get a 7-day suspension, but it'll also wipe both cards issued here from his tally, returning him to a relatively safe (ahem) three.
