So this afternoon (like many other afternoons in the past couple of month) I started looking into which repos have high chances of getting pwned via releases. Now source of this stars are from ossinsights project. I built a dumb HTML app with you know what to look into this.
The image shows Top 9 GitHub repositories sorted by stars that have immutable releases not turned on. These repos includes vscode, boostrap, godot, neovim, pytorch, tailwindcss, opencv, netdata and flask

I vibe coded this (Not an achievement). But the use-case is to check for known malicious packages in package.json file using @opensourcemalware.bsky.social API 🫡 Now the repo in question is known to use malicious .githooks (DPRK) but also have known malicious NPM package too.
The image shows scan results of package.json file hosted on public GitHub repository. The scanner uses OpenSource Malware Database.

Opposition leader doubles down on immigration policy and defends preferencing One Nation over independent in Farrer in ABC interview

Between 1788 and 1868 more than 162,000 convicts were transported to Australia. Of these, about 7,000 arrived in 1833 alone.

The convicts were transported as punishment for crimes committed in Britain and Ireland. In Australia their lives were hard as they helped build the young colony. When they had served their sentences, most stayed on and some became successful settlers.

Property agents leading AI use
Edited by Misa Han, Editor at LinkedIn News

Real estate agencies and finance and business services firms are among the small businesses leading AI adoption, according to NAB research. Meanwhile, only one in five retail and transport businesses said they have adopted AI. In a LinkedIn video, NAB's executive general manager Krissie Jones says small businesses are already using AI to summarise documents, check numbers and quote faster.

If you are using GitHub opt out ,otherwise they will train their models using your data. Also, entire GitHub is on fire (Malware, Phishing, Attacks), but GitHub is busy with AI 🫠
We’re updating how GitHub uses data to improve AI-powered coding tools. From April 24 onward, your interactions with GitHub Copilot—including inputs, outputs, code snippets, and associated context—may be used to train and enhance AI models unless you opt out.

If you previously opted out of the setting allowing GitHub to collect this data for product improvements, your preference has been retained— your choice is preserved, and your data will not be used for training unless you opt in.

This approach aligns with established industry practices and will enable our models to deliver more context-aware AI coding assistance. We have tested this with Microsoft interaction data and have seen meaningful improvements, including increased acceptance rates in multiple languages.

Please review your settings and choose whether your interactions with Copilot can be leveraged for training AI models before this update goes into effect on April 24. To opt out or adjust your settings:

 • Go to GitHub Account Settings
 • Select Copilot
 • Choose whether to allow your data to be used for AI model training

When you don't have the budget for a security department You want a fucking unicorn
We are seeking a versatile Security Engineer who can operate across security operations and GRC, supporting both hands-on technical security and policy, risk, and compliance activities. This role is ideal for someone who:

Enjoys working across domains, not in a silo
Is comfortable balancing technical depth with governance responsibilities
Thrives in a small team, where ownership and adaptability matter

You will help maintain and improve our ISO 27001 posture, support incident response, advise engineering and business teams, and ensure security controls are practical and effective. The role will be responsible to pitch security advice at a technical level, directly to key stakeholders. The role may also provide support with client-facing engagements, security reviews, and compliance initiatives.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Participate in and support security incident response, acting as a key operational contact
Monitor, triage, and respond to security alerts from cloud, endpoint, and SaaS platforms
Support vulnerability management, security tooling configuration, and security hygiene
Assist with secure configuration and hardening of cloud, systems, and applications
Support DevSecOps practices and CI/CD security controls (where applicable)
Maintain and continuously improve the ISO 27001 ISMS
Support risk assessments, risk treatment plans, and control effectiveness reviews\
Own and maintain security policies, standards, procedures, and evidence
Support internal and external audits, including evidence collection and remediation tracking
Assist with third-party risk assessments and customer security questionnaires
Help translate technical controls into clear compliance and assurance language
Provide pragmatic security guidance to engineering, product, and business teams
Help embed security by design into projects and operational changes
Act as a bridge between technical teams…

ACS : Shape the future of Cyber Professionalization People in the Industry thing about ACS 👀
I’m writing this post as a community service announcement.

They call themselves “the professional association for Australia's technology sector” saying that they make up 5% of the tech workforce. This is patently false. Their entire existence is to gouge immigrants for their courses to validate for immigration, to provide useless training services, and to flood the market by pushing immigration as high as possible (as immigrants have to pay $$$ for their skills checks).

The organisation that actually represents tech workers is “Professionals Australia”. They act as a union for tech workers and will provide resources for employment contracts reviews, firings, discrimination etc and part of the ACTU. Tech is a young industry but as it gets more mature and with the recent layoffs, unions become very helpful in the future.

Officers from the Hunter Valley Police District commenced an investigation following reports two men had attended a mine site on Bengalla Road, Muswellbrook.
An employee at the site asked the men to leave, which they complied with, before reporting the incident to police.
After becoming aware of claims circulating on social media, both men attended Waratah Police Station yesterday (Sunday 22 February 2026) and spoke with police.
Inquiries established that one of the men was a former employee of the mine and had attended the site hoping to see former colleagues.

Here is the response from Federal MP for Hunter www.facebook.com/DanRepacholi/
LET ME BE CLEAR – Police have confirmed there has been no trespassing at the Bengalla mine site.
NOW LET ME BE EVEN MORE CLEAR – I’ve had to make this post in response to some racist, low-life bullshit spread by One Nation around our community.
Two blokes have had their photo taken and some grub has decided to spread misinformation about them seeking access to a mine site to get their hands on explosives.
And One Nation have decided, without facts, to spread this rubbish around our community.
Hunter Valley Police District have now made it crystal clear there is no evidence to support the claims being spread on social media.
There was no break in. These blokes weren’t involved in doing anything wrong.
For One Nation to spread this dangerous misinformation around says way more about them than the innocent blokes who were just going about their business.
That’s not leadership. That’s not community safety. That’s race-baiting.
This rubbish has consequences.
I’ve already heard from people across the wider Hunter who’ve told me that the tone of some of this commentary has made them feel unsafe, targeted because of how they look, where they come from, or what their name is.
Our region is built by people from all walks of life, tradies on site at Bengalla, local families, small business owners, apprentices just starting out.
The Hunter’s strength has always been our diversity and our willingness to look out for one another.
Spreading lies and racist dog whistles for political gain doesn’t make anyone safer, it just divides our community and puts innocent people on edge.
Hunter Valley Police have strong working relationships with all our local mines and incidents are reported and investigated as they occur.
So before you share the next inflammatory post doing the rounds, check the facts.
Because this kind of misinformation isn’t harmless.
It’s hurting people right here in our community and we’re better than that in the Hunter.

The image shows ScamWatch Australia Alert with the following message

Scamwatch warns about potential scams exploiting the new social media
From 10 December 2025, some social media platforms will be restricted, by law, to people aged 16 and over.

These laws require affected platforms to take reasonable steps to prevent anyone under 16 from creating or holding accounts.

These measures are designed to protect young people from the risks and pressures associated with social media use.

Information about the new restrictions is available at eSafety’s social media age restrictions hub.

Scamwatch has identified 4 potential scams that opportunistic criminals may use to take advantage of these changes.
Who’s at risk

Young people and their families affected by the new social media age restrictions

Social media users

What the scams might look like
Platform impersonation scams

Scammers may pretend to be social media platforms or age verification providers, and ask you to verify your age or risk losing your account.
Government impersonation scams

Scammers may pretend to be from government or law enforcement, claiming you have breached the new laws and threaten fines unless you provide proof of age.

Fake ID scams
Scammers may offer fake IDs or access to age-verified accounts for a fee, targeting young people under 16 and their families.

‘Hi Mum’ scams

Scammers might impersonate young people aged 16 or older, contacting their parents or guardians to claim they need help verifying their age to use a social media platform.

An excerpt NSW Auditors General report on NSW government agencies

Case study ‒ Cybersecurity
One agency runs unsupported operating systems on a number of servers without a:
• formal risk assessment
• action plan as to how to safely continue using the systems and/or work towards replacing them.
Some of these servers also host ‘crown jewel’ applications. Unsupported operating systems do not
receive regular security updates from a vendor. The absence of vendor support increases the vulnerability
of the systems to cyber security threats.
In addition, the risk of cyber security incidents was increased as a result of ineffective controls including:
• distributed denial of service attack prevention not implemented
• multi-factor authentication not configured for access into key systems
• event monitoring tools not utilised for all ‘crown jewels’
• unsupported systems in use without a formal risk assessment or a management action plan.
The agency experienced a cyber-attack affecting another key financial system. As a result of inadequate
event monitoring controls, the cyber attacker remained within the environment for around a month
without being identified.
