The government is restricting funds for #harmreduction. This makes it difficult and/or impossible for organizations to do the work of keeping people alive, including syringe service programs. Strapped for funding, restricting and/or cutting more funding will make things worse. How do we know?

New article alert! Our team estimated the number of people who may become newly homeless if the President's housing policies are realized. Over 44,000 additional people may become homeless if the federal government stops funding for Housing First programs! jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

This Administration is callous and cruel to its own citizens and to many more around the world. From dismantling food, housing, and medical aid globally to fighting courts to avoid being forced to deliver food aid within the country, they are showing a clear disdain for people living in poverty.

“Undermining harm reduction and cutting related programs isn’t merely a funding decision; it is an assault on an approach to health care that prioritizes evidence, compassion, and dignity — values that are central to the medical profession.” Great piece @jabarocas.bsky.social

Methadone access is essential for many people with opioid use disorder to reduce overdose, the impacts of injection use, and the chaos many experience with addiction—and no surprise Medicaid helps increase access! Great use of national data www.healthaffairs.org/doi/10.1377/...

Beyond the horrendous human suffering due to these ICE actions, it makes me think of a story from Heather McGhee’s The Sum of Us—draining neighborhood pools rather than desegregating. We favor shooting ourselves in the foot rather than making things better for all. bit.ly/4l1NMna

Trump signed an EO calling for an end to Housing First policies and harm reduction, as well as criminalization of homelessness and mental health. This is a terrible idea. Read here for more: bit.ly/417vr0E

“Of the interventions that have been tested & implemented, helping people into stable housing without precondition of sobriety, otherwise known as the Housing First model, is a compassionate way to decrease homelessness, reduce health care use, & possibly improve health outcomes.“

The actual synthesis between the GOP’s pro business commitments and RFK’s various crunchy instincts isn’t food system reform, it’s going easier on scammy supplements.

With the publication of PURPOSE 2 for PrEP in @nejm.org, and the stellar results, I wonder what’s going to happen once it gets approved for this indication. Should be interesting, to say the least! blogs.jwatch.org/hiv-id-obser...
