Hoping one day that people understand the difference between "talking TO" vs "talking AT" someone

I get tired of people acting as though, if you like to draw black women sexy, it's you pushing the "jezebel" stereotype.

I get so tired of people treating art and the existence of fat dark skinned black women as if it's a caricature 🫩

- specifically these characters who are supposed to be able to do whatever, including egregious behavior, without repercussions or criticism. When someone IS critical of the character, it's nothing but rage. 😮‍💨 I don't know why it's such a common character trope, but I hate it.

In today's essay, we explore how people with "all powerful" OCs oftentimes have control issues 🙂‍↕️📝

For the love of EVERYTHING DO NOT ask artists to emulate someone elses style! If you want a specific artists style, go to THAT artist! 🤦🏿‍♀️

Ultimately, you can't say that you don't care about world issues, but expect others in the world to reserve care for you. 🙂‍↔️

It's very interesting to see people well into their adulthood be purposely dense about world issues, even admitting it. You observe the issues that they DO care about and it's the most unimportant nonsense you could ever hear. 😬 Just filled with entitlement and self importance.

A lot of people get happy to see black characters with light palms bc it feels like there's more care being put in. Starting these conversations as a black person to go "I don't care about it, but-" and opening up the floor for people to say disgusting things pisses me off.

I personally love seeing black characters drawn with light palms. It's weird as fuck to complain about it or equate it to minstrelsy... 🫩

Being upset or offended when black people want to be in community with each other is nuts. 🙄 You not understanding why isn't our problem.

And see, I considered that one too and wondered how it would work. 🤔 In an individualistic society, you have to start making people be the only ones to suffer from their actions. 😗 "You've used up your designated life supply of water. Womp..."

Sometimes I wonder if people's views on AI would change if they were charged individually, based on their usage. 😮‍💨 You used this much power and water for your AI slop. Here's your bill.

AUGH- What on EARTH would you even compare this story to??? Shakespeare story?

Kirby 🎧🎶 || Comms Open @kirbystomping.bsky.social · 01/02/2026

But again, I understand what you're saying with the comps helping to drive visibility. But it definitely should not be so heavily pushed.

Kirby 🎧🎶 || Comms Open @kirbystomping.bsky.social · 01/02/2026

That's really annoying. 🫩 Something needs to change in this space and fast. Let people write their stories and if the reader can draw comparisons to media they've consumed in the past, let them.

My problem with publishing is that I’m not a fan of comp titles. I hate to have to describe my book as AxB, This meets That, imagine this plus that! I understand it’s to help gain audience & show what inspired it but I would rather just have my story be represented by a blurb and not other stories.

Kirby 🎧🎶 || Comms Open @kirbystomping.bsky.social · 01/02/2026

Like, I really like that idea better. Because, like you said, not everyone is familiar with the media comparisons. You can tell me a book is like The Witch of Hooplah and I won't know what that means. 🧍🏿‍♀️

Kirby 🎧🎶 || Comms Open @kirbystomping.bsky.social · 01/02/2026

I didn't know what a "comp title" was until now. They were just words and I was like "oh, okay..." But is this a newer thing? I haven't really heard that term much until the past few years. I'm used to the blurbs on the back of the book and going "Oh that sounds interesting! Let me give it a read!"

Even in my brief gripe with trad pub (2021-23) I could barely get through to them that they were asking way too much from me. The timelines were just too unrealistic for a 300 page GN. Especially as a writer-illustrator like I have to write this twice practically, and all while getting bullied
