Truly the most important feature of the latest VSCode update. I guess I can be happy they’re basically showing that VSCode is “done”, and all they can think of now is ensuring blind people also get annoyed by silly visual fanfares?

Hear when confetti appears
The new Confetti accessibility signal provides the same celebratory feedback when you cannot see the animation. The joyful sound plays when chat thumbs-up confetti appears and when you successfully mark a session as done in the Agents window.

A clip shows the user clicking the checkmark icon, causing confetti to appear out of it.

Every time some process goes crazy and leaks 10GB+ memory, Activity Monitor gives up and says idk man, I sold your memory to Sam Altman
Activity Monitor’s memory graph shows medium memory pressure (orange). Total physical memory, memory used, cached files, etc are 0 bytes. Swap usage is 15.68GB.

An app called Sysinternals Process Explorer, running on macOS. The main window looks like as straight a port from the Windows app as possible, including a Windows-style toolbar and status bar.
A property sheet window is open for one of the processes, where the title bar amusingly uses a thousands separator on the pid (39,396). It only vaguely looks like the Windows app. It has a strange custom tab bar.
The System Information window is the least like the Windows app, and shows a decent summary view of general system info, storage usage, and graphs for CPU, RAM, swap, disk I/O, network, and GPU usage.

Features we’ve already shipped

• Repo-level pull request controls: Gives maintainers the option to limit pull request creation to collaborators or disable pull requests entirely. While the introduction of the pull request was fundamental to the growth of open source, maintainers should have the tools they need to manage their projects.
• Pinned comments on issues: You can now pin a comment to the top of an issue from the comment menu.
• Banners to reduce comment noise: Experience fewer unnecessary notifications with a banner that encourages people to react or subscribe instead of leaving noise like “+1” or “same here.”
• Pull request performance improvements: Pull request diffs have been optimized for greater responsiveness and large pull requests in the new files changed experience respond up to 67% faster.
• Faster issue navigation: Easier bug triage thanks to significantly improved speeds when browsing and navigating issues as a maintainer.
• Temporary interaction limits: You can temporarily enforce a period of limited activity for certain users on a public repository.

Plus, coming soon: pull request deletion from the UI. This will remove spam or abusive pull requests so repositories can stay more manageable.

These improvements focus on reducing review overhead.

I don’t think anyone here needs more proof Grokipedia is a terrible idea, but here you go: • SSE2 works on any OS that supports SSE1, so, Windows 2000 • SSE2 is a mandatory feature of AMD64, so it didn’t “emerge” with Vista • The Legacy Update page it references makes none of the claims made here
A section of the Grokipedia page on SSE2:

Operating System and Library Usage
SSE2 integration into operating systems began with early 2000s releases targeting x86 processors capable of the extension. Windows XP (NT 5.1), released in 2001, offered partial support for SSE2, enabling applications to utilize the instructions on compatible hardware without mandating them for core OS functionality. Full SSE2 reliance emerged in Windows Vista (2007), where 64-bit installations required processors with SSE2 support to ensure consistent performance across system components.

Screenshot of a support forum site that seems to have scraped a Usenet thread. The thread happened 14 years ago over the span of a week, with 5 users. (The user’s issue was that iTunes couldn’t find d3d8thk.dll.)

2 weeks ago, “Dani AI” felt the need to summarise this thread, while injecting many things that were never discussed. The thread never talked about `sfc /scannow`, yet the AI is recommending it. It very vaguely suggests you should do something with “the CBS log” with zero explanation (the link is a support page showing how to run `sfc /scannow`), and links to Legacy Update, which didn’t exist yet. It’s also very sure Internet Explorer plugins (BHOs) are related to a missing Direct3D dll and need to be fixed.

The previous screenshot was from DuckDuckGo (GPT-4o). Google does at least recognise that it’s disputed, but doesn’t say so clearly enough for my liking.
A Google AI Overview for the same search query, which opens with “According to market share data from StatCounter Global Stats, Windows 7's global market share was approximately 9.16% in September 2025. This is a significant increase from previous months, though some analysis suggests this surge is due to reporting errors, particularly in Asian markets.”

Only at the very end (below the “fold” where you need to click to expand) does it more clearly state the data is flawed: “Technical Note: As Windows 7 is an unsupported operating system, this unexpected rise in market share is likely an anomaly in the data rather than a genuine trend of users returning to the older OS.”

This trend indicates that many users are opting to continue using the older operating system despite its lack of official support since 2020.”

I continue the conversation by challenging it on the validity of the data. It searches and then says “The claim is almost certainly invalid - StatCounter reported a large September 2025 jump for Windows 7, but multiple technical analyses and follow-ups flag it as a reporting anomaly […]”.
