This art was apparently too spicy for the PL discord server. Worst of all, literally no one realised I drew it 😭😭😭

when I run out of claude and codex, I switch back to my trusty 1 year GLM 5.3 subscription. it's oddly refreshing

i hesitate to use entrepreneur though because I guess I feel like my research is a little more consequential than the next uber for dogs

it was driven home when one of the ops people, speaking to one of the founders, "being a genius must be difficult" and it gave that vibe of both affirming but also isolating - you're smart, but you're also different. and like that's exactly how people treat me. impressed, but also at a distance.

hat being said unlike all the other researchers I met there, I don't have anything outside of my career. I don't have a family. I barely have friend circles. If I fail I've got nothing I've got no support network. It's not a thing I can turn off and settle back to a "normal" life if it doesn't work.

after spending the week at a philanthropic funding event, I'm noticing in the space of entrepreneurs, being weird isn't bad? it's a bonus, as it signals skill. look, she looks like a freak, she must be good I feel seen: when people look at me, they don't see a freak (bad), but see a freak (good)

EMPIRIC: Experiment-Driven Learning of Residual World Models for Robot Planning

Yichao Liang, Amber Li, Dat Nguyen, Emily Bunnapradist, Michelangelo Naim, Sreela Kodali, Matteo Merler, Bowen Li, Kiran Gopinathan, Yiyun Liu, Nikhil Pimpalkhare, Joshua B. Tenenbaum, Adrian Weller, Zenna Tavares, Tom Silver, Kevin Ellis

A robot should be able to learn through experiments how unfamiliar objects behave and interact, then plan with that knowledge. It need not start from scratch: physics engines supply knowledge of motion and contact, but can omit entire mechanisms, such as glue curing, water heating, or wind. We present EMPIRIC, an agent that learns a residual world model: a physics engine extended with code for the missing

Was super fun talking to all the scientists, especially the climate scientists. So refreshing. I love the energy the hope the will to change and dream of a better world and to keep fighting for the world.

fun fact, the letters of OOPSLA rearrange to OSLOPA. this is a subtle nod to the fact that OOPSLA is filled with slop, and I think that's a beautiful thing

responsible disclosure: I was a free-culture freak wayyy before LLMs you FUCK
I should note that the author uses AI semi-frequently and has a no copyright slogan, therefor it is very likely that the project itself is coded with AI

Make PL database. Every request is "can you add my fav conf <not-PL> conf" Make it make sense. I regret adding ASE, ICSE and FSE. This isn't a slopdb.

Kiran @kirancodes.me · 30/09/2026
No, sadly not. Hosting them i think would possibly leave me open to a bunch of licensing issues. I might add links to online pdfs on an ad hoc basis at some point if I can find them

she's from academia I can tell by the way she's presenting findings to the room it doesn't take a peer review to see a researcher always finds a way to leave drinkin jack all by myself she's choosin' research I can tell

you crack your egg and then you are baby turtle
i am a baby turtle where is mama, google search response

Your mama is already gone. She laid your eggs in the sand and went back to the ocean a long time ago.

Growing up alone.
You do not need your mom.
You can live on your own from day one.
Your instincts tell you what to do.

I am very okay
hi claude today I wanna build a robot that hugs me and tells me I'm loved. I'll do all the assembly we're goign to design, comission, assemble and build it all from scratch, it's going to be exposed as an MCP tool hug_me and agents can call it to hug me.
