Mucky Nutz receives a King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation
We are proud to share that Mucky Nutz holds the 2026 King’s Award for Enterprise, Innovation for our Rear MugGuard. The King’s Awards for Enterprise are among the UK’s most prestigious business awards. Approved personally by His Majesty The King, they celebrate outstanding achievement by UK businesses and mark 60 years of recognising excellence. Based in Bude, Cornwall, Mucky Nutz is an independent cycling accessories brand with a team of just four people. Receiving this recognition is an especially proud moment for us and shows what can be achieved through persistence, practical problem-solving and listening closely to customers. ## **What the Award recognises** The Award recognises the innovation behind our Rear MugGuard: a modular and adjustable rear mudguard designed specifically for modern mountain bikes. Traditional rear mudguards often force riders to choose between a small guard that protects the bike’s rear shock and linkage, or a larger guard that provides fuller protection for the rider. The Rear MugGuard was created to offer both options in one adaptable product. It can be used in a shorter configuration for everyday protection or fitted with its extension for greater coverage in wet and muddy conditions. Riders can switch between the two without tools, while an adjustment dial allows the angle and clearance to be fine-tuned for different bikes. The Rear MugGuard was conceived and developed in the UK and is manufactured here from 100% recycled plastic. It is supplied in a reusable kit bag made from recycled bottles, avoiding the need for single-use packaging. The product was developed over several years through research, prototyping and extensive real-world testing. It has since become one of the most important products in the Mucky Nutz range. ## **Why it matters to the business** The Award is a powerful recognition of what can be achieved through careful product development, determination and listening closely to customers. It also reflects the support of our UK manufacturing partners, distributors, retailers and riders around the world. Developing the Rear MugGuard strengthened our experience and capabilities in design, prototyping, testing and manufacturing, giving us greater confidence to take on more ambitious projects. It also provides an opportunity to reflect on how far the business has come. What began with a simple mudguard idea has grown into a recognised British cycling brand, designing products in Cornwall and selling them to riders around the world. Recipients are entitled to use the King’s Awards Emblem for five years, in line with official guidance, and will receive the Award locally from His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant. ## **Shane Darwin, Founder and Managing Director** , Mucky Nutz, said: > “Receiving a King’s Award for Enterprise is a hugely proud moment for us. We’re based in Bude and competing in a global market, so to have our work recognised at this level means an enormous amount. > > “The Rear MugGuard came from refusing to accept that riders had to choose between a small guard that protected the bike or a larger one that protected the rider. We wanted to create one product that did both properly, fitted a wide range of bikes and was made responsibly here in the UK. > > “It took several years of development, testing and refinement to get right. As a small independent business, every investment and product decision matters, so this Award is a wonderful recognition of the commitment shown by the whole team.” ## **Top tips for future applicants** We would encourage other small businesses not to be put off by the application process or assume that the Awards are only for larger organisations. Allow plenty of time, gather your evidence early and explain your achievement clearly. Do not assume the assessors already understand your industry or product. Describe the problem you identified, what you did differently and the measurable difference it has made. It is also worth being honest about the challenges involved. Innovation rarely follows a straight line, and the setbacks, changes and lessons learned are an important part of the story. Most importantly, do not underestimate what a small team can achieve. A business does not need enormous resources to create something genuinely innovative. It needs a strong idea, evidence that it works and the persistence to keep improving it. ## Find out more.. The occasion brought together RJM’s UK-based team, alongside senior colleagues from its operations in the USA and Asia-Pacific. The company was also joined by a number of key suppliers and distinguished guests, including Simon Tufnell, Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire; Jamie Scott, Mayor of Winchester; Laura Taylor, Chief Executive of Winchester City Council; and Lucille Thompson, Winchester City Council’s Cabinet Member for Business & Culture. ## **Recognising International Success** The King’s Award for Enterprise is the UK’s most prestigious business award, recognising companies that demonstrate exceptional achievements across a range of categories. RJM received the award for its sustained success in expanding overseas trade and delivering strong international growth over the past three years. Reflecting on the achievement, John Goldring, Managing Director of RJM International, said: “This award is granted to those businesses that have achieved three years’ of consistently strong turnover growth in overseas markets. For us, over the past three years, this has meant good sales in Sweden, Spain, Turkey and Kosovo, as well as further afield in the USA, Malaysia and Australia. “All of these projects have been quite different, so what this confirms to me is that no matter where in the world a power plant is, and no matter what the combustion technology or the type of fuel, RJM has a viable solution that can help that plant improve efficiency, cut its emissions, raise its MWe output – and increasingly – help it on its transition to net zero.” The award highlights RJM’s expertise in helping power plants around the world improve performance, reduce emissions and support the transition towards cleaner energy generation. ## **Celebrating Partnerships and Looking Ahead** Recognising the important role that specialist engineering fabricators play in its international success, RJM invited leading UK and overseas component suppliers to join the celebrations. Delta Fire: British Innovation Supporting Frontline Firefighting
**King’s Awards for Enterprise recipient Delta Fire Ltd is demonstrating how British manufacturing and innovation can help fire and rescue services respond to both established and emerging operational challenges.** Based in Norwich, Delta Fire designs and manufactures specialist firefighting equipment used by fire and rescue services across the UK and internationally. In 2025, the company received two King’s Awards for Enterprise, recognising its achievements in **Innovation** and **Sustainable Development**. Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service (NFRS) has adopted a number of Delta Fire products into operational use, **including for tackling wildfire and vegetation fire incidents**. These include a specially configured **Delta Attack 100 branch** with ultra-low flow capability and the innovative **Hydro-Wall hose system** , providing crews with additional tactical options. Their experience provides a valuable example of how British-designed and manufactured firefighting technology can deliver practical benefits on the frontline and support modern firefighting tactics. ## **A versatile branch for modern firefighting** NFRS has introduced a modified version of Delta Fire’s Attack 100 hand-controlled branch across the Service. The branch has been configured with ultra-low flow capability, giving firefighters selectable outputs from 20 to 150 litres per minute. This enables crews to select a flow proportionate to the incident, helping them use water efficiently while retaining the capability required for more demanding firefighting operations. The lower flow settings are particularly valuable during wildfire and vegetation fire incidents, where controlled water application and conservation of available water supplies can be critical. The branch has also been integrated with NFRS appliances using 22mm hose reel tubing, providing crews with a lightweight and versatile firefighting package. ## **Scott Norman, Deputy Chief Fire Officer at Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service, said:** “Having introduced the Delta Attack 100 across Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, we have been extremely impressed with its performance, versatility and firefighter-focused design. The branch is lightweight, ergonomically designed and robustly constructed, making it comfortable to handle during prolonged incidents while providing the durability required for demanding operational environments.” The branch provides variable yet consistent spray patterns and jet settings across a range of tactical scenarios. Its incorporated vane and turbine technology is designed to optimise droplet size and spray performance, supporting effective heat absorption and recognised firefighting techniques. Scott Norman added: “One of the standout features is the excellent flow range, with selectable outputs from 20 to 150 litres per minute. This flexibility allows crews to apply water efficiently and proportionately to the incident, supporting both effective firefighting and water conservation. The lower flow settings have proven particularly beneficial during wildfire and vegetation fire incidents, where controlled water application is essential.” ## **Protecting assets and responding to wildfire risk** NFRS has also adopted Delta Fire’s **Hydro-Wall Nozzle** , an innovative hose-based system designed to rapidly create a substantial curtain of water. Lightweight, portable and quick to deploy, Hydro-Wall provides incident commanders with an additional tactical option across a range of incidents. During wildfire and vegetation fires, the system can be deployed to create a protective barrier that helps slow fire spread and support containment operations. It can also establish a cooling water curtain to help protect properties, infrastructure and other assets threatened by radiant heat and advancing fire fronts. Once established, Hydro-Wall can remain safely in situ and continue providing protection while firefighters focus on other critical tasks. This can provide significant operational benefits during prolonged incidents where personnel and resources must be deployed efficiently. Speaking about the system, Scott Norman said: “The Hydro-Wall hose system has proven to be an innovative and highly practical addition to Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service’s operational toolkit, providing a simple yet effective solution to a wide range of incident types.” He continued: “What makes the Hydro-Wall particularly impressive is its ability to create a substantial wall of water in spray form, providing a versatile tactical option for incident commanders. During wildfire and vegetation fire incidents, it can be deployed to create a protective barrier that helps slow fire spread and supports containment operations. Equally, it can be used to establish a cooling water curtain to protect properties, infrastructure and other assets threatened by radiant heat and advancing fire fronts.” Hydro-Wall Nozzle hose in action preventing a wildfire advancing. ## **Innovation in response to a changing climate** The operational adoption of these products comes as fire and rescue services face changing risks associated with climate change, including the challenge presented by larger and more frequent wildfire and vegetation fire incidents. The Attack 100’s ultra-low flow capability and the Hydro-Wall system demonstrate different aspects of Delta Fire’s approach to innovation: developing practical firefighting equipment that enhances operational capability while supporting more efficient use of resources such as water. Highlighting the importance of innovation in responding to these emerging risks, Scott Norman said: “As fire and rescue services continue to adapt to the increasing challenges posed by extreme weather incidents, including larger and more frequent wildfire events, the Hydro-Wall represents the type of innovative thinking that is required across the sector. It delivers a practical, cost-effective solution that enhances firefighter capability while helping to protect communities and the environment from escalating risks.” ## **From Norwich to the frontline** For Delta Fire, the adoption of its technology by its local fire and rescue service provides valuable real-world validation of products designed and manufactured in Norwich. Operational feedback from services such as NFRS also helps Delta Fire understand the evolving requirements of frontline firefighters and identify opportunities for continuous product improvement. The relationship demonstrates the value of close engagement between UK manufacturers and public services, bringing together industry innovation and frontline operational experience to help ensure firefighting technology responds to the challenges faced by modern fire and rescue services. Reflecting on the relationship, Scott Norman said: “By working closely together, manufacturers and fire services can combine operational experience with product innovation to create solutions that directly address emerging challenges. This partnership approach has produced benefits not only for the people of Norfolk but also for the wider fire and rescue sector, providing an example of how collaborative working can drive meaningful improvements in public safety and operational effectiveness.” Delta Fire’s two King’s Awards for Enterprise recognise the company’s achievements in **Innovation** and **Sustainable Development** , and its commitment to showing how British manufacturing can deliver practical solutions to real-world challenges. From its manufacturing base in Norwich, Delta Fire is combining innovation and sustainable thinking to strengthen firefighting capability, protect communities and respond to emerging environmental risks in the UK and internationally. Celebrating Linnk Group: A King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade
We’re proud to celebrate **Linnk Group** , a recipient of the King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, recognised for its strong global growth and commitment to excellence over the past seven years. Founded by CEO **Jamie Sobrany** , Linnk Group has built an impressive international footprint, driven by a clear vision and sustained performance across global markets. This recognition marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey and reflects both long-term ambition and consistent delivery. As part of our recipient spotlight series, we spoke to **Devaashish S. Savant, Head of Global Marketing & Marketing Research**, to hear more about their experience. ## **A long-standing ambition** Prior to founding Linnk Group, Jamie served as Group Managing Director of a high-growth international business, where he was responsible for leading the company's international expansion strategy and developing new markets globally. During his tenure, the business was recognised twice with the Queen's Award for Enterprise in International Trade, in 2006 and again in 2014, reflecting its success in growing international revenues and establishing a significant global presence. As part of this recognition, Jamie had the privilege of attending a reception in 2006 at Buckingham Palace, where he met Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. These experiences remain among the highlights of his career and helped shape his passion for international trade, entrepreneurship and building organisations capable of achieving sustainable global growth. Those earlier recognitions helped plant the seed — and over time, it became a clear ambition for the business to achieve the same prestige in its own right. ## **Why now?** After seven years of operation and strong performance in international markets, the timing felt right. The business had built a solid track record in global trade, and applying for the King’s Award represented an opportunity to benchmark this success against the highest national standard. For the team, it was about recognising how far the company had come — and sharing that story more widely. ## **The application experience** Reflecting on the process, Linnk Group described it as **seamless and well supported throughout**. Devaashish highlighted the **professionalism and responsiveness of the King’s Awards team** , noting that guidance was clear and support was readily available when needed. The experience gave the team confidence in the robustness of the process and reinforced the prestige associated with the Award. **The impact of winning** Receiving a King’s Award has already delivered tangible benefits for the business. Devaashish highlighted: * **A stronger competitive edge in sales conversations** * **Increased traction across social media channels** * **Enhanced credibility when engaging new and existing clients** The team is actively leveraging the Award across their 5C audience including (clients, customers, consultants, colleagues and candidates) as a clear signal of quality and trust. The recognition also comes at a pivotal moment for the business, as Linnk Group prepares to move into a **new, premium office space in London Bridge** — a step that reflects both growth and future ambition. ## **Advice for future applicants** For businesses considering applying, Linnk Group emphasise the importance of preparation and authenticity: * **Prepare early** – ensure all relevant documentation and stakeholder input is ready in advance * **Plan collaboratively** – bring together internal teams to strengthen your submission * **Be genuine in your impact** – particularly around CSR, where activity should be ongoing and embedded, not reactive Their advice is clear: a strong application reflects not just performance, but a consistent and credible story. Linnk Group’s success highlights the power of sustained international growth, clear ambition, and strong leadership. Their King’s Award is not only recognition of past achievements, but a platform for continued success on the global stage. Forfusion receives a King’s Award for Enterprise in Promoting Opportunity
We are proud to highlight Forfusion, which has been recognised with a King’s Award for Enterprise in Promoting Opportunity — one of the UK’s most prestigious business awards. The Award recognises Forfusion’s work in creating meaningful opportunities for veterans and service leavers, supporting their transition into civilian careers through its Civilian Work Attachment Scheme and wider Armed Forces community initiatives. ## Government support During the COVID-19 pandemic, Forfusion accessed support through the UK Government-backed Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS). The business also utilised the COVID-19 Job Retention Scheme (furlough) to support employees whose roles were temporarily affected by the pandemic. This support provided stability during a period of significant uncertainty, enabling the business to protect jobs, maintain service delivery and continue investing in its future. By navigating the challenges of the pandemic, Forfusion was able to retain its people, continue growing, and expand its community and social value initiatives in the years that followed. While this support did not directly influence the decision to apply for a King’s Award, it played an important role in ensuring the long-term sustainability of the business. This enabled the continued development and expansion of the Civilian Work Attachment Scheme, which formed the basis of the Award application. ## Why they applied Forfusion applied for the King’s Award for Enterprise in Promoting Opportunity to recognise and celebrate the work undertaken to create meaningful opportunities for veterans and service leavers. The Award represents a significant milestone for the business, reinforcing its commitment to supporting individuals as they transition from military to civilian careers. It also recognises the contributions of the team, the support of military partners, and the achievements of the veterans and service leavers who have taken part in the programme. ## A moment of recognition Steven Forrest, CEO of Forfusion, said: > “Receiving a King’s Award for Enterprise represents a moment of immense pride for everyone at Forfusion. Being recognised for championing opportunity through our work supporting veterans and service leavers into civilian careers reflects our firm belief that businesses succeed when they invest in people. As a North East founded company now operating nationally and delivering services internationally, we are honoured that our commitment to creating meaningful career pathways has been recognised through this prestigious Award.” ## Looking ahead Forfusion’s work demonstrates how businesses can create meaningful pathways into employment, while delivering social impact alongside commercial success. The King’s Award highlights not only the strength of its programme, but also the wider value of investing in people and creating opportunity. As the only Northern Ireland recipient this year, their achievement shines a spotlight on the region’s talent, ambition and growing international impact. It also reinforces the value of The King’s Awards as a mark of excellence that helps businesses build credibility, open doors and accelerate growth both at home and abroad. We have a majority of female management level people in our business and equity on our board; it helps us to remain inclusive and balanced.” Her advice for women aspiring to senior leadership is both grounding and empowering: “Lean into your own strengths; there are many different styles of leadership. Even introverts can be excellent collaborative leaders.” And on this International Women’s Day, Natasha encourages us all to keep moving forward: “While it’s important to recognise how far we have come in ensuring equal access to opportunities for women in business, there is still work to do. Valuing all unique capabilities, regardless of gender, feels like something worth continuing to strive for in our businesses and as a society.” 💜 A brilliant leader, role model, and advocate for sustainable, inclusive growth—Natasha’s work continues to enrich not only The Garlic Farm, but the wider community around her. Celebrating International Women's Day
## 🌟 Introducing Adriana Santos, Head of International at The Tracklement Company Limited | B Corp 🌟 In continuation of hashtag#InternationalWomensDay, we’re delighted to highlight Adriana and her team as recipients of the King’s Award. Thank you, Adriana, for sharing your thoughtful reflections for International Women’s Day — reminding us of the importance of championing women in business, celebrating their achievements, and continuing to push for meaningful progress on gender equality. Congratulations once again on this well‑deserved honour. 👑💜 ⭐ What does receiving a King’s Award mean to you and your organisation? It is an absolutely honour to have been recognized with The King’s Award for Enterprise. This award underlines our determination to grow our international business, collaborating with our phenomenal international partners [and customers] and our role in championing British produce globally, which is renowned for its quality, traditional skills and sustainability. These values define who we are and reflect our ambition to be recognised as the leading producer and champion of premium British artisan condiments. ⭐ What has your personal journey been like as a woman in business/your sector? I’m originally from Brazil and now also a British citizen, having lived in the UK for almost 22 years. As an expat, I had to work hard to find my place here, and I’m deeply grateful to the people who gave me the chance to grow professionally. Although most of my career has been in sales and marketing roles, my early background was in the hospitality industry. My move into international trade, specifically within the food and drink sector, happened by chance over a decade ago, and it’s a path I’ve been proud to follow ever since. The food and drink sector remains largely male‑dominated, and as a result, all of my mentors in the industry have been men. I’ve been fortunate, though as they consistently encouraged my peers to listen to my perspective, which helped me grow, feel supported, and build confidence in my own abilities. Although I haven’t been mentored by women, many have inspired me through their professionalism and resilience. I hope that my own career journey can, in turn, inspire other women to believe in themselves and pursue their ambitions with confidence. Working with people from all over the world has made it very clear that job titles carry weight, especially for women. I’ve experienced moments where the tone of a conversation shifted the instant someone noticed my job title on my business card. It was a stark reminder of how perceptions can change based on hierarchy, even when your competence hasn’t. ⭐ What advice would you give to other women aspiring to senior leadership roles? Believe in your abilities. Confidence is a powerful asset, and you should carry it with pride. Just remember there’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance, so stay grounded as you grow. ## Managing Director of Gibson Games, Kate Gibson, shares her experience of receiving the King's Award for Sustainability, as part of her family-run business. ⭐ What does receiving a King’s Award mean to you and your organisation? It’s a huge honour and privilege to win a Kings Award for Sustainability. As a British, family company, we have worked hard to prioritise people and planet across the business, becoming a B Corp in 2023 and a Kings Award winner in 2025. It’s not an easy thing to achieve and it is testament to the efforts of our entire team past and present. ⭐ What has your personal journey been like as a woman in business/your sector? Today there are many women leading businesses in our industry, but that wasn’t the case when I began my career. Supporting other women in business has always been important to me. I believe in continual learning and maximising the support that is out there, through other networks, like-minded businesses or coaching. As a woman, I’ve found it is a fine balance between remaining humble and acknowledging I don’t know it all, whilst not allowing imposter syndrome to show it’s face too often. I am proud of the compassionate way I lead our business, balancing the need for commercial success with what is best for our people and the planet, and I am honoured to stand alongside other incredible women in our business. ⭐ What advice would you give to other women aspiring to senior leadership roles? Never underestimate the importance of having the right people around you in the right roles. Make sure processes and systems are in place to support you and the business and go after it. Set goals as you go and re-evaluate regularly and be willing to learn more from the times you fail. Join groups, lift each other up and make sure you work in a business you feel passionately about. Take care of your physical and mental health – looking after that is part of your responsibility as a thriving leader. Some of my best decisions are made on a run! ## 🌟 Introducing Sophie Costello, Director at Costello Medical 🌟 We’re delighted to celebrate Sophie and the Costello Medical team on their achievement as King’s Award recipients. **⭐ 1. What does receiving a King’s Award mean to you and your organisation?** Receiving a King’s Award is a tremendous honour for Costello Medical. Understanding where a business is truly doing well can be difficult — traditionally, success is measured by financial figures, but those only tell a small part of the story. The King’s Award recognises the kind of company we are, the culture we foster, and the impact we have, providing a world-renowned validation of our team’s dedication and innovation. For me personally, it’s inspiring to see that staying true to our values and vision can be recognised at the highest level. ** ⭐ 2. What has your personal journey been like as a woman in business/your sector?** My journey as a woman in the medical sector has been both challenging and rewarding. Leadership is difficult — it involves tough decisions, competing priorities, and constant problem-solving. I’ve learned that it becomes even harder if you try to be someone you’re not. Discovering a leadership style that is authentic to me, rather than conforming to pre-conceived ideas of what a leader “should” be, has been essential. Alongside that, I’m incredibly proud of the wonderful women in our leadership team, whose talent, dedication, and insight make Costello Medical the organisation it is today. **⭐ 3. What advice would you give to other women aspiring to senior leadership roles?** Believe in your expertise and embrace your authentic leadership style — don’t feel pressured to fit a mould. Leadership comes with difficult decisions and challenges, and it’s far easier to navigate them when you lead in a way that feels true to you. Most importantly surround yourself with people who challenge and support you. I have been incredibly lucky to have had a team who promote both high standards and ambition alongside genuine care for each, which has been so instrumental in allowing us all to thrive. **⭐ 4. Is there anything else you’d like to share as part of International Women’s Day?** International Women’s Day is a moment to celebrate the achievements of women across every sector and reflect on the importance of gender equality. I hope organisations continue to foster environments where women can lead authentically, and innovate. I’m proud that at Costello Medical, our leadership team includes many incredible women whose vision and talent make a real difference every day. ## London Early Years Foundation (LEYF)'s CEO, Dr June O'Sullivan OBE shares her incredible and inspiring experience of receiving the King's Award for Enterprise and her journey as a woman in business. 💜 ⭐ **1. What does receiving a King’s Award mean to you and your organisation?** ** **Receiving the King’s Award was both an honour and a validation of something we have believed in for many years: that early childhood education and care is a powerful force for social justice and education for sustainability is a key element At the London Early Years Foundation, we have always argued that childcare is not simply a service that enables parents to work. It is an investment in children, families and communities. When high-quality early education is accessible to everyone, regardless of background or income, it changes life chances. For us, the award recognises the work of an extraordinary community of educators, leaders and families who believe that every child deserves the best start in life. It also shines a light on the role social enterprise can play in delivering services with purpose, reinvesting in communities and putting people before profit. Personally, it feels like recognition of a journey that began many years ago when I saw first-hand how systems could exclude families who needed support the most. The award strengthens our determination to keep pushing for a fairer system where early education is recognised as a cornerstone of a just society. ⭐ **2. What has your personal journey been like as a woman in business/your sector?** My journey has been shaped by both challenge and opportunity. I was a very young single mother in the 1980s and experienced directly what it felt like to be excluded from childcare systems that were not designed for women like me. Later, as a social worker in Battersea, I saw many other mothers facing the same barriers. They were full of love and ambition for their children, but the system often failed to recognise their potential. Those experiences stayed with me and shaped my leadership. They convinced me that childcare is not a luxury or convenience, but a question of fairness and opportunity. The early years sector is largely powered by women, yet historically it has not always received the recognition, status or investment it deserves. Leading in this space has meant constantly advocating for the value of care, education and community. Building the London Early Years Foundation has therefore been about more than running an organisation. It has been about challenging assumptions, creating opportunities for women in the workforce, and demonstrating that socially driven organisations can deliver both impact and excellence. **⭐ 3. What advice would you give to other women aspiring to senior leadership roles?** First, believe that your voice matters. Too many women underestimate the value of their perspective and experience. Leadership is not about fitting a traditional mould. It is about bringing your values, your curiosity and your commitment to the work. Second, build relationships and communities around you. Leadership is rarely a solo endeavour. The strongest organisations are built by teams of people who trust each other and share a common purpose. Third, stay anchored in your values. There will always be pressures to compromise or to follow conventional thinking. But the leaders who create lasting change are those who remain clear about why they do what they do. And finally, remember that leadership is also about opening doors for others. Real progress happens when we make it easier for the next generation of women to grow, lead and succeed. **⭐ 4. Is there anything else you’d like to share as part of International Women’s Day? ** International Women’s Day is both a celebration and a reminder. It is a celebration of the extraordinary contribution women make every day in families, workplaces and communities. In early childhood education in particular, the sector is sustained by the dedication, creativity and resilience of women who nurture children and support families. But it is also a reminder that equality cannot be taken for granted. While many women have opportunities that previous generations fought hard to achieve, there are still women around the world who are denied the most basic freedoms: the right to learn, to work, to participate fully in society. That is why solidarity matters. International Women’s Day invites us not only to celebrate progress but also to reflect on how we use our voices and influence to support others. When women are supported, children thrive, communities grow stronger and societies become fairer. For me, that remains the heart of the work. 👉 Find out more: The King's Awards for Enterprise: About the awards - GOV.UK

Celebrating International Women's Day
## 🌟 International Women’s Day: Celebrating Innovation, Representation and the Power of Women’s Voices, with Naomi R. Co-Founder & Co-CEO of Flare Audio. 💫 Their King's Award recognises their unique breakthrough product, Calmer; an in-ear device that reduces stress from annoying and uncomfortable noises without blocking sound, avoiding the isolation caused by ear plugs. Hear from their Co-Founder Naomi R. as she talks about her award and the importance of #InternationalWomensDay 💜 What does receiving a King’s Award mean to you and your organisation? I can’t express how proud we are. Being recognised for an invention that’s making a difference in the world is what we've always dreamt of. As the awards carry so much integrity, it gives people even more faith in our brand and reassurance in our products. ** What has your personal journey been like as a woman in business/your sector?** There have been challenges along the way, particularly at trade shows or where people in the industry have historically wanted to speak with a man. Things have changed though, and there’s now a lot more woman in tech and representation of woman in this industry. Stereotypes have been broken and I believe attitudes are changing for the better. ** What advice would you give to other women aspiring to senior leadership roles?** Trust your instincts and don’t wait for permission to create opportunities. Some of the most meaningful connections and partnerships I’ve built have come from simply reaching out to someone because I felt there was a conversation worth having. Leadership doesn’t always come from having the loudest voice in the room - it often comes from empathy, listening and building genuine relationships. I also think it’s important not to feel that you have to fit a traditional mould of leadership. Your perspective, your sensitivity and your ability to understand people can be some of your greatest strengths. ** Is there anything else you’d like to share as part of International Women’s Day?** For me, International Women’s Day is a reminder of how important it is to ensure that different voices and perspectives are represented. Some of the most powerful stories I’ve come across through Flare have come from people who might not normally be given a platform. When we take the time to listen to those stories, we learn so much about each other and about the world around us. I feel very grateful to work with a team and a community that values empathy curiosity and connection, and I hope we continue to create spaces where people feel seen, heard and able to share their experiences. — Naomi Roberts Co-Founder & Co‑CEO, Flare Audio Find out more: The King's Awards for Enterprise: About the awards - GOV.UK

Credit: Nick Corlett, Sustainability Manager at **London Early Years Foundation (LEYF)** ## **How did you hear about The King’s Awards for Enterprise?** We’ve long admired the prestige and purpose of the **King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development**. As a social enterprise deeply rooted in creating positive impact, we were inspired by the values the Awards champion, especially around sustainability and enterprise with purpose. The Awards have increasingly become a beacon for organisations like ours, who want to use their platform to lead change. LEYF Royal Oak Nursery and Pre-school ## **Why did you apply for the Awards?** We applied because we wanted to shine a light on the often overlooked but vital role that Early Years Education and Care (EYEC) plays in building a more sustainable future. Through this award, we hoped to amplify the message that sustainability in EYEC is not an afterthought, it’s a necessity. It’s central to how we support children, families, and our communities every single day. In fact, our whole-system approach is driven by the London Institute of Early Years, LEYF’s dedicated research and training hub, and its: Action for Sustainability in Education, Community of Practice which is a vibrant network focused on embedding the three pillars of sustainability – economic, social, and environmental sustainability into daily practice. We also wanted to celebrate the collective effort of our staff, children, families and partners who have helped embed sustainability into our DNA – from ethical procurement and waste reduction to carbon footprint monitoring and embedding the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) into daily nursery life. Nurseries | Green LEYF photos ## **How did you find the application process?** The process was rigorous but deeply reflective. It gave us the opportunity to pull together all the strands of our sustainability work from our ISO14001 and Planet Mark achievements, to partnerships with organisations like City Harvest, Fashion Enter, Green Bottoms, and Bikeworks. The application was a chance to step back, gather evidence, and celebrate how far we’ve come. It reminded us that sustainability is a journey and one worth shouting about. ## **How does it feel to receive the award?** This award is a huge boost for everyone at LEYF. It acknowledges the hard work and dedication of our team and validates our mission to lead sustainability in the Early Years sector. Sustainability in Early Years isn’t about slogans or scare tactics, it’s about daily decisions, mindset change, and social justice. As our Sustainability Manager, Nick Corlett, put it so perfectly, “We wanted to win this award to shine a light on the role EYEC can play in building a more sustainable future.” ## **How do you plan to celebrate?** We’ll definitely celebrate with the children, staff and everyone that has a shared interest in this achievement!. And yes, there might even be cake and fizz involved! LEYF Ford Road Nursery and Pre-School ## **How do you plan to use the award / tell others about your success?** The King’s Award gives us an incredible platform to share what’s possible when sustainability is part of your culture and not an add-on. This will include: * Featuring the award across our communications and social media. * Sharing resources and tools via our Community of Practice: Action for Sustainability in Education. * Encouraging others in the sector to become sustainability informed and join us in this movement. * Continuing to deliver our Diploma in Sustainability in the Early Years, led by our brilliant Eco Champions. ## **What top tips do you have for others applying?** * Know what drives your sustainability mission and let that shine. * Embed sustainability in everything from governance and pedagogy to procurement and daily routines. * Track your impact (like through ISO or Planet Mark) which helps tell your story clearly. * Celebrate partnerships when you collaborate with likeminded partners. * * * Credit: Nick Corlett, Sustainability Manager at **London Early Years Foundation (LEYF)** > Find out more about @leyfonline on their website: LEYF Nurseries - London Early Years Foundation

The Bio-D Company receives the King’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development
Bio-D manufactures a wide range of environmentally friendly, vegan cleaning products using 100% plant-based and naturally derived ingredients. * Bio-D is proud to be the longest registered holder of The Vegan Trademark Bio-D champions transparency across all areas of the business, and reports on its sustainability goals, challenges and achievements in its annual Sustainability and Impact Report * Over 50% of Bio-D’s management team is female * Over 50% of Bio-D staff use a green method to commute to work – for example by electric car, bus, walking, or cycling Heather Nixon, sustainability, NPD and regulatory manager at Bio-D, said: “Applying for a King’s Award has always been on our bucket list; it’s one of the most prominent business awards in the country and to have your business personally approved by both the Prime Minister and His Majesty the King is a huge honour. What could be better? “We also wanted to prove to our customers and consumers that we are truly sustainable. Greenwashing is prevalent, especially in the household cleaning category, so securing a King’s Award for Sustainable Development would demonstrate our eco-credentials. “We knew it would be a detailed award to enter, but to us this meant it would be even more meaningful to receive an award after putting the time and effort into the submission. With an award like The King’s Award, if you win, you know it’s because you genuinely deserve it.” Heather continued: “Sustainability is in our DNA, it is why Bio-D was founded in 1989, and everything we do has the environment at its heart. It’s something we consider across all areas of the business, so it was only natural to apply for the Sustainable Development category. “It is also something we can verify. We publish a report each year detailing progress made, along with the next year’s priorities and how we can further improve our eco-credentials. These reports demonstrate the substantial amount of progress we’ve made over the past five years alone.” Heather said: “The process to apply for a King’s Award was – understandably – rigorous; it is not something you can breeze your way through. Completing the application takes a lot of thought and consideration. “However, it is worth it if you are passionate about your business and the difference you’re making. In a way, completing the submission also helps you to understand if you stand a chance of being successful – you need to have enough relevant examples of work and statistics to include. “The time needed to complete your application, in my opinion, proves just how meaningful the award is. Those who succeed need to tick every single box and back it up with evidence.” Heather said: “We were absolutely over the moon when we found out we had won a King’s Award for Sustainable Development. Just hearing we had been shortlisted was brilliant in itself, so the day we found out we had won was a very special day. “Without a doubt, The King’s Award is the most meaningful award we have won to date, and that has been reflected in our feeling of achievement. “What was best about the win, was that it was a real group effort and gave the whole team a massive sense of achievement. Because it is the work that goes on day-to-day across all departments that helped us to secure the award. Sometimes it feels like the small things don’t make much of a difference – for example charging reusable batteries rather than using disposables, or organising recycling waste – but all of the little things contribute toward a bigger goal. “Staff buy-in has been one benefit of winning a King’s Award. Our suppliers have also really got on board – winning has helped to deepen our relationships with stockists and suppliers. “Being able to give evidence of our sustainability credentials has also been a massive benefit. The King’s Award truly proves that we put sustainability first, and demonstrates this fact to our customers and consumers.” ## Top Tips for Applicants 1. Make sure to set aside the time to complete the submission, and put as much effort as you can into the details you include. Writing the submission isn’t something you can complete in an hour, it took us a significant amount of time to complete our entry. * Completing the submission is a team effort. Yes, one person may be writing the award, but the form requires information from all areas of the business. Teamwork is essential. * I found it particularly useful to download all the questions first, go through and add bullet points notes in for each answer, before going back through and filling in the details. This gives you a plan to work towards and helps prevent repetition or missing out key points. * Finally, don’t make your submission too ‘heavy’ – someone has to read it so try and make it interesting and fun to read! www.biod.co.uk Facebook: The Bio-D Company Instagram: @thebiodcompany LinkedIn: The Bio-D Company Ltd | B Corp TikTok: @thebiodcompany
