Meet Joachim, member of the advisory team behind Kingfisher – An Autism Tale. For Joachim, the project is about showing autism with more nuance, humanity and understanding – through characters with their own stories, strengths and challenges. #KingfisherGame #Autism

Meet Steffie Delaere, volunteer at Autisme Vlaanderen and passionate about combining her interest in writing with her own lived experience. #indiegame #autism #kingfishergame
Two photos of a young woman posing for the camera. The accompanying text reads:

My name is Steffie Delaere, and I have been volunteering with Autisme Vlaanderen for 3 years. Besides contributing to the game as a member of the advisory team, I am also part of the editorial team that publishes a magazine about autism 4 times a year. Professionally, I work as a social worker in the justice system.

I was diagnosed with autism at a young age. It's been a long journey to discover what autism means for me and how I could give it a place in my life. Becoming a volunteer at Autisme Vlaanderen has helped me along the way. It lets me share my experiences and use them to support others.

Contributing to Kingfisher allows me to combine my interest in writing with my own experience. I believe the game offers a unique, accessible way to learn about autism. I hope it can support autistic people as they explore what autism means to them.

What I value most is that we're creating the game together with people who each contribute from their own experience of autism. Every voice matters, and everyone in the advisory team is free to be fully themselves.

Two down, one to go! Our second week in the motion capture studio was as exciting as the first. Big thanks to everyone who participated, especially our autistic friends and colleagues who helped bring their characters to life. #indiegame #autism #motioncapture

Last week we hit the recording studio (Coacs Studio) for Thomas's dialogue in Kingfisher – An Autism Tale. Hearing his voice come to life added so much personality, emotion & depth to his story. Huge thanks to Baptiste for voicing Thomas! #indiegame #autism #indiedev

Meet Rebecca, a volunteer at Autism Flanders and an OG member of our advisory team. With an autistic partner and son, she experiences the diversity of autism on a daily basis. #KingfisherGame #autism
Three images of a woman, posing for the camera and holding a speech.

The accompanying text reads:

My name is Rebecca Coppens, and I have been a volunteer with Autism Flanders for 17 years. I volunteer at the Information Centre and the Autism Helpline, give talks about autism with my son, and organise lectures to promote greater understanding and awareness. Since 2025, I have been Chair of the Municipal Advisory Council for People with Disabilities and serve on the board of the Municipal Advisory Council for Family Caregivers. I also coordinate a neighbourhood initiative that brings people together in a social housing community.

Autism is an important part of my personal life. My partner is autistic and has ADHD, and my son is autistic. Their experiences remind me every day how diverse autism can be.

I have been involved with Kingfisher: An Autism Tale from the very beginning. The game celebrates the diversity within autism through characters with different strengths, challenges, and ways of communicating, helping to break down misconceptions and foster understanding, inclusion, and acceptance.

Authentic representation doesn't happen by accident. Our advisory team of autistic people and people with lived experience helps us create a game that reflects diverse autistic experiences with care and nuance. Their voices are an essential part of Kingfisher. #autism #indiegame

We've been working on an inspectable case file the past few weeks. But… what does an 11 year old murder case have to do with the recent kidnapping of a boy who was barely three years old at the time? Up to you, the player, to analyze the clues! #indiegame #devvlog
