I'm ashamed of the USA today.
Then, it became clear how unclear everything was for him. Not only had Jamaal not heard about Pike, but he also didn’t understand how executions were carried out. When I told him that the drugs didn’t work in her case, he didn’t understand what drugs I was talking about. To him, nothing made sense.

Suddenly both of us fell silent.

Finally Jamaal said: “I guess if the drugs don’t work, they’ll just shoot me in the head.”

GeoGroup is making a ton of money with our tax dollars to do this to people fleeing wars and seeking a safe place to raise their families.
The open letter includes the names, government-issued alien numbers, countries of origin and time in detention for the 45 men who signed it. All have been in ICE detention for at least one year. A Chinese man named Liang Sonji, who signed the letter, came to the US and requested asylum in October 2023 and has been detained since.

Russ Vought doubled down on using the party-line reconciliation process to secure the Pentagon funding boost. Vought also floated eliminating the filibuster on spending bills. “We’re not planning on failure,” Vought said
Lawmakers also learned last week that DOD couldn’t spend all $152 billion in defense funds from the One Big Beautiful Bill by the fiscal deadline. That undercuts the argument for giving it more than double that amount through reconciliation this time.

“The Pentagon, the senior leadership, keeps insisting that they’re going to get $350 billion in reconciliation,” Sen. Chris Coons (Del.), the top Democrat on the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, told reporters last week. “They will not.”

I just read something about the regime wanting to end accommodations so disabled people can live in society with the rest of us. And then see this. This regime only cares about disabled people if they want to hunt. AYFKM? And they cannot just go and kill tons of sharks because Trump said so either.
“Directs the Secretary of the Interior, the Secretary of Agriculture, the Secretary of War, and the Secretary of Commerce to propose changes to polices that prevent access of public lands for recreation, infrastructure repair, and wildlife management, as well as to encourage volunteers to manage wildlife populations and invasive species, allow the use of assistive technology on access trails and hunting locations for people with disabilities.”

What an asshole.
“(As) CEO, I initially chose not to take a public position that would pull us into the fray,” Chapek writes in a chapter of his book titled “Don’t Say Gay — and the Tweet Heard ‘Round the World.”

Iger, however, did take a position — retweeting a statement from President Joe Biden that read, “I’m with the president on this! If passed, this bill will put vulnerable, young LGBTQ people in jeopardy.”

“That tweet made my job all the harder getting the Florida legislature to soften the bill,” Chapek writes. “Disney was a powerful company that had enjoyed strong working relationships with the Florida legislature. But this wasn’t about business anymore – it was about culture, power, and I believe, the future presidential aspirations of Ron DeSantis.”

Chapek originally sent an email to Disney cast members stating the company would not publicly denounce the bill.

San Jose went from keeping data for a year to one month. AFAIK San Francisco still keeps the data for a year. I'm not holding my breath cops etc. ever get charged with any crime when misusing the data.
The court decision in Santa Clara County comes only weeks after officials revealed that a San José police officer was fired for abusing the city’s license plate reader network to help his family member track the whereabouts of a woman who accused the family member of domestic violence.

Trump is full of shit as usual. Refineries are closing because they are not profitable, no one closing them. In fact Newsom is begging a couple that have planned closures to stay open. Trump is not capable of telling the truth or taking responsibility for what he fucks up.

What's driving up Gasoline is no longer the Strait of Hormuz, because Record Numbers of Barrels are coming out now on an almost daily basis, but the word, "Refineries," where Russia's are being blown up by Ukraine, and where ours are being closed up, in Blue States, like California, by the Dumocrats. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Light streamed through stained-glass windows in a former church, illuminating long white tables where weary men gathered. Johnny Henderson was glad for the rest. The 71-year-old — who has one arm, heart disease and vision problems — slept on the street the night before.

Henderson is a regular at the St. John Center men’s day shelter. So are a great-grandfather in a wheelchair who has prostate cancer, a 54-year-old with four psychiatric disorders and a 66-year-old with a walker who wears a hospital bracelet warning “fall risk.”

And his white relative comes up with racist conspiracy theories that the dead man was a sort of suicide bomber meant to harm local white population. This nation is full of racist sick people. I wish we could fix them.
But Diana, who had spent years working as a nurse in Ohio prisons, continued. She said her experience had taught her to think “outside the box,” and she offered a theory that none of the investigating authorities had suggested. She believed that what happened could have been more than a suicide, that Pierre could have been “almost like a suicide bomber,” attempting to send a political message. She said she believed that this could start happening more often.

The very idea this DOJ is in any position to judge someone's ethics is nuts. They are mad at the judge for this article: archive.is/T4UeM
Immigration and Customs Enforcement had violated nearly 100 orders issued by Minnesota’s Federal District Court during the month of January, including some mandating the release of undocumented immigrants from detention.
The violations needed to stop immediately. “ICE is not a law unto itself,” Judge Schiltz wrote in his Jan. 28 order.
Judges around the country took notice, not only of the scale of the allegation but because such a harsh reproach was coming from the pen of Judge Schiltz, a George W. Bush appointee with almost 20 years of experience on the bench. He clerked for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia in the 1980s and has enjoyed close ties to the conservative legal establishment for decades. This was not the profile of a judge likely to engage in a high-stakes standoff with the White House.

Women (and frankly, most men) have no desire to be cult figures, that is not = to be successful or even powerful. And it seems women tech leaders may have a hell of lot more ethics than many of the billionaire bros fight for every promotion we get. I was kicked out of tech sales for being too old.
She would know. In 2018, Google hired the Ethiopian-born Gebru to colead a project on ethical AI. Gebru did what she was hired to do: She called out biases in AI via a now-infamous research paper that Google said didn’t meet its standards. Her subsequent termination caused a firestorm. Now she heads a group called Distributed Artificial Intelligence Research that investigates some of the harms caused by tech giants and AI.

Rao: don't we have to give the government's declarations the presumption of regularity? NO. this government has proven again and again no court can trust them. Presumption of Regularity Is Gone.
Deliberate Sabotage

A NYT review found 35 instances since August in which federal judges have issued show cause orders for why Trump DOJ attorneys should not be sanctioned for failing to abide by court orders in immigrant habeas cases.

DOJ has been lying to judges. From February: morningmemo.talkingpointsmemo.com/p/judges-big...
As Morning Memo reported two weeks ago, Trump DOJ lawyer Tiberius Davis told U.S. District Judge James Boasberg in a hearing in the original Alien Enemies Act case that the administration’s agreement with El Salvador to ship immigrants there for confinement, including in CECOT, would expire in March, after one year.

That was a bit of news, and it caught Boasberg’s ear because he’s overseeing a separate case in which human rights groups are suing to invalidate that agreement. So Boasberg circled back and asked Davis again if the agreement was set to expire after one year, and Davis confirmed what he’d originally said.

Three days later, Boasberg followed up in the other case by asked the Justice Department to file a brief on whether and when the agreement expires and whether that moots the case.

In its response to Boasberg, the Trump DOJ dipsy-doo’d again: “Defendants respectfully state that the non-legally binding diplomatic arrangement at issue in this case does not have a termination date.” (Davis is listed on the filing that case, too.)

It’s this kind of inability to get straight or consistent answers from DOJ lawyers that is driving judges crazy and spelled such a quick end to the presumption of regularity previously afforded to the Justice Department.

Republicans in power today object to trans and womens rights
Regarding “Gender”: It is the policy of the United States to recognize two biological sexes, male and female. To achieve this, we use clear and accurate language that recognizes women are biologically female and men are biologically male. Sex is not

interchangeable, rather it is irreplaceable. The differences between male and female should be celebrated, appreciated, and respected.

On “Sexual and reproductive health”: There has unequivocally never been an international commitment on “sexual and reproductive health and rights,” and we strongly oppose the use of this terminology. The Trump Administration is committed to supporting families, promoting women’s health, and protecting children at all stages of life and reaffirms there is no international right to abortion.
