Truly enjoyed this episode. I appreciate the transparency and showcasing the human side of a tech career. Tech is cool and all, but your personal growth and journey, human relationships, impact, and how you set and achieved goals together with your family were the biggest wins and most inspiring.

As a european, from the outside looking in, I'm just shocked by current state and where things are heading. No matter the platform, at this moment I just feel like deleting all social media.

One week in Split, Croatia. Almost every day we visited a new nearby island by boat. Split was perfect place to stay, nice beaches, short distance to many nearby locations & activities. Perfect if you want a good balance between relaxing & activities, always surrounded by beauty.

I always have a hard time deciding if I should have classes or function. Tend to use classes slightly more since I can inject them into constructor, easier to mock/create new implementations for persistence layer/wrapper when something like repository pattern is used.

As someone from Finland, imagine basically hearing "Russia is not a threat" while sharing a 1300km long border and horrible history with Russia.

This was one of the main selling points for my team to choose Flask, its minimalism. In industrial domain where I work, projects often have to live long for a long time, which means we want to be in control by writing most of the code. There must be a very good reason for a dependency to be added.

I work as SWE in industrial sector, and can say there's a lot more to it than solving basic coding tasks and algorithms.

It's good for autocompleting a line of code I was going to write myself anyway. More than that is distracting. It doesn't make us inherently smarter, and easily becomes like training wheels. As a professional, invest in being competent and understanding things. And that applies to making use of AI.

Industrial sector is special. We have several browser based apps with little backend or no backend, and there unit tests are more useful. Then we have some mobile apps built with web technologies that have to work offline in factories. Speaking from my teams experience, I do mostly backend :)

Same here, most value in e2e tests. Only found UI unit tests valuable in our team if it's a shared component/library, or if there's bunch of calculations involved as I work in industrial sector. But for most things I wouldn't bother unit test.

Software Engineer from Finland. I work in energy & industrial sector, using my coding and cloud skills to build systems that help contribute to a brighter future. I love it, feels meaningful.

When you come to this platform, you notice the cognitive overload present on X. I love the feeling when I refresh my bsky feed and there's nothing new to see.

I will aspire to do the same. Currently just feeling numb to all kinds of crazy changes in the world since 2020 tbh. My life up until that feels like a fairytale now, and it feels like it will never be the same again.

I wonder who the potential candidates could be. Not too many available now that Tuchel is England coach and Pochettino in USA. Maybe it's best to see where things go with Van Nistelroy instead of rushing that decision. Has any other club had this many managers last 10 years?

Kiitos! Tätä on odotettu noin vuosikymmenen ajan. Paljon juhlittavaa ens vuonna: paluu liigaan, uus stadion, Jaro täyttää 60v.

Do you know any good books on this, or other resources? Experience is probably big part of this, but would like to learn more.

I wonder if this technology could be used to add comments to a static blog somehow.

Sounds really cool to host social media content. Would also be interested in reading longer posts if you had a blog :)

Not a particular technology, but currently enjoying applying my backend & cloud knowledge to industrial and energy sectors. I don't think people understand how powerful their knowledge can be, and how broad the spectrum of domains these skills can be applied to.

Champions league always makes me feel like a child again, no matter how I old I get! Doesn't even have to be my team playing and I'm still very much excited!

When you come to this platform, you notice the cognitive overload present on X. It's a kind of decision fatigue and anxiety that easily goes unnoticed. I love the feeling when I come here, and notice nothing new has happened since last time. Good reminder that life is happening outside.

Agree. Just migrated from WordPress to Hugo (because reasons...🙃), and so far find it powerful. No matter what happens to the SSG-tool of my choice in the future, my content, the most valuable thing, will be safe in markdown and front-matter. This allows me to sleep well at night!

I wonder what the cost difference would be when also measuring the human effort cost as well when building the distributed microservices approach vs monolith.

I just gave a presentation to 20+ people that have never heard before about the world of containers and Kubernetes. This was a "large" presentation for me personally, I'm not used to it. It was received well, and I had so much fun doing it! I even prayed to the demo gods like @kelseyhightower.com 😄

However it goes, what they have done this season can't be taken away. Simply impressive, the only team to challenge city.

This! I've seen many skilled developers that don't know how good they're, and some of them never ask for anything. One time I told my boss how good my coworker is, how she has contributed to a project. As a result my coworker got significant salary increase. These things can often go unnoticed.

🙏 I worked part-time (60-90%) besides studying during my 7 years at university. After graduating I didn't want to be productive for 3-4 months after, I was burned out by work, and the feeling that I have been in school my whole life. I felt like I had forgotten who I was and what I like to do.

It takes a lot more energy to be rude than being polite. On the flip side, doing something good for someone else gives you energy back.

I notice that I have a bad behaviour. I always expect there to be more newer posts or posts I haven't seen when refreshing my page. I must be so used to the birdsite suggesting new things to me. I think bsky will be healthy for me. When there aren't new things to see, it's time to close the app.
