Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I love that Steam makes the results of they Hardware & Software survey public. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 29/09/2026The Lily58 split keyboard is amazing! No more pinky acrobatics! 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Zed is actually quite fun. Definitely faster to bootstrap than LazyVim, which also needs tweaks after first installation. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 25/09/2026ConfiguringCtrl-hjkl panel navigation to Zed was a life changer! That should just be the default for vim mode to make all the NeoVim/LazyVim users happy. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 22/09/2026AI speeds up work considerably-ish. Unfortunately, there are currently a lot of wheels being reinvented. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I’m delighted by Mistral’s ‘vibe’ and how well it works for fast rubber ducking. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Open Source and the open discussions that come along with it are still my favourite aspect of the community. Did a single Forgejo command fail for me today? Yes. Do I know exactly why? Also, yes! Just like that, I’ve learned about latest sha256 developments in git. 🚀 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 15/09/2026For all the things that AI gets wrong, there’s also a tremendous amount of stuff it gets right. It’s essentially more efficient rubber ducking. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 13/09/2026LazyVim with a little bit of customization on top is still the best. I should create a distro based on it and call it LazierVim! 😅 001
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 11/09/2026RustConf was amazing! The UnConference discussions were a closing highlight for me and I’m glad I stayed for those! #rustconf 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Dioxus (Rust web/app framework) was acquired by Cognition (Devin)! 🚀 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Signed up to the Indigo Innovators program today. Books are important and I hope that they stay around for a while longer. (And read the Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir! It’s so good!) 001
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Read a Guardian article by Dr Daniel Susskind about “[…] what parents need to know about AI.” Super smart fella. Not so sure about his pitch as AI for personal tutoring/education though. At least not in the next few years. Generated text is too flawed. It works for code, because code is testable. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Used The Morbid Zoo’s link to subscribe to Nebula. Seems like that’s where the long-form content is nowadays. And I love to support those creators! 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 04/09/2026It’s Mystery Friday! I stumbled on an old tmux session with a question from an AI agent. I said yes! Let’s see what it’ll implement for me, because I haven’t the foggiest clue what I asked it to do! 110
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Today was a disappointing day, because I learned that the vast majority of the tech sector is associating with right-wing extremism nowadays. And here I was naively thinking we all like tech because of Star Trek and other hopeful futures. 🤷 010
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 31/08/2026AI can be great for coding. It isn’t always on point though. Today I’m fixing an “issue” where another agent decided to undo my previous work. Again. 020
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 31/08/2026Easy choice to use chezmoi for dot-file management across operating systems: it has a “migrate away from chezmoi” section for off-boarding in its docs. No lock in. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 30/08/2026@joplinapp.bsky.social Joplin Terminal works on Asahi Linux! I got it up and running on my old M1 MacBook Air! I guess the terminal version is mostly for servers? But really, really cool that it can be used for tinkering too! 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 29/08/2026I had way too much fun making minor tweaks to my Asahi Linux desktop last night. 020
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 27/08/2026It’s Lake Ontario named after the Huron word for “great lake”. Strikes me as super racist to rename it after a white dude. That’s also why it’s Gulf of Mexico. 120
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 27/08/2026It’s a challenge to set AI aside when it’s time to wrap up. The LLM doesn’t need to rest, but it has to for own mental peace at the end of the day. 020
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Lindsay Ellis’ video about Dolly Parton is great. I learned a lot. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 25/08/2026I’m amused that Mistral’s latest “vibe” CLI isn’t in their model yet. It denies that features exist while I’m using them! 😅 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Holy moly! No Rest for the Wicked might actually be available on Mac with the 1.0 release! Hope it’s happening! 🤞 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 23/08/2026One of the nicest things about Linux: whatever your use-case, there’s a distro for it! 100
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Saw Switch & Click’s video about using SteamOS as a desktop OS. I’m most impressed how SteamOS prevents breaking changes. Safer Linux desktop environments for non-technical users is definitely a step in the right direction. 001
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 11/08/2026I’ll be at RustConf in Montréal next month. 🦀 If you’re going too, I’d love to meet. Happy to schedule something in advance, or just say hi between sessions. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 08/08/2026Updated Fedora Asahi Linux on my old MacBook Air. I’m always pleasantly surprised how it keeps this old laptop fresh and usable. 🐧 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Domain secured. And, signed up as CIRA member. Now, is it time to stop procrastinating and actually write some essays? 🤔 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 27/07/2026The Expanse is on CBC Gem! It’s even better rewatching it. The really long story arch is amazing! 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 20/07/2026Sunday was spent setting up tmux (properly) and hooking up Pi with my local Ollama serving a Mistral AI model. I’m most happy that my tmux looks good now and the it has vim motion key bindings now! 😅 021
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 18/07/2026Watched Her (2013) and it is interesting how different AI was perceived and portrayed back then. 001
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 16/07/2026I always thought that age would be a major issue when training for running races. Well, turns out that climate change is the ultimate problem. There are so many heatwaves and wild fires now, which make training a health risk. I cannot imagine how much this is going to affect the next generations. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 12/07/2026Binge watched the entire Millennium mini-series. The Swedish one. It’s fantastic and I love the attention to detail in every scene. Also, the film grain in certain shots was charming. Not sure if that was intentional or just a poor lighting coincidence. 😅 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 07/07/2026Finished Harrow the Ninth. Really long ramp-up, but the story turns into fire towards the end. Absolutely a great read! 010
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 02/07/2026Children of Morta looks amazing and the opening was great, but I had to refund it due to micro stutters. Changing resolution and flipping v-sync didn’t help. Unfortunate, because I got 100+ FPS, but the micro stutters were extremely jarring. 100
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 22/06/2026After a week in Paris I’m mostly offended that my plants seem to be doing so much better with me gone. 🌱 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 11/06/2026Git 3.0 is apparently scheduled for later this year and I just learned that a bunch of tooling doesn’t support SHA-256 yet. Had to switch from gitui to lazygit. Luckily, that also just works with LazyVim out of the box. 😮💨 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 05/06/2026Just finished Gideon the Ninth and I’m already onto Harrow the Ninth. It’s such a fresh story and dramatically really well paced. 110
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 03/06/2026No Rest for the Wicked release announced! This is awesome! 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 31/05/2026I tried out Raiders of Blackveil since it seemed like a cool Roguelite/ARPG mashup. Looked at my watch and it’s 11pm. So, yeah, it’s actually pretty good already despite being in early access. It’s on sale right now too! 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 26/05/2026Casey Muratori’s talk The Big OOPs is really interesting. He reverse engineers how we got here — in object oriented terms. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 24/05/2026I watched a horror movie and the 2025 documentary The Librarians. I watched two horror movies. 010
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 17/05/2026Old MacBook updated to Fedora Linux Asahi Remix 44! Was that easy? Heck no! Was it worth it? Always! 🐧 020
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 12/05/2026First time an ad popped up on ChatGPT for me today. Next: I’m waiting to see when an ad will be part of the answer. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 10/05/2026Saw a lot of recommendations for Dead Cells. It was an instant buy once I read that Motion Twin is a French indie studio. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 01/05/2026There’s the idea of the “dead internet” where most traffic is just bots. That aside, it’s also a problem that most websites are just advertisements now with zero or trivial content. 011
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 27/04/2026It’s pretty fantastic how running an AI locally lets you tailor it to your needs — while also being a privacy vault. 000
Kim @kimjbaran.bsky.social · 21/04/2026Scouted for smaller LLM models and came across translation models from the University of Helsinki. It was interesting to find out that they have a disclaimer that they are not accurate enough for real world applications. 000
