killermenpl @killermenpl.bsky.social · 30/08/2026TL;DR: "escapism" is only one of many factors why isekai is popular. Saying "old people are all seeking escapism" is misinterpretation of data, or more likely just clickbait to get you to view ads on their "scientifically backed" article 020
killermenpl @killermenpl.bsky.social · 30/08/2026The title of that article is pure clickbait. Yes, some people seek escapism in those shows. But people also seek escapism in romance shows. It's also equaly likely that people are choosing isekai shows for reasons such us "they're cool" or "that's what's on the tv" 100
killermenpl @killermenpl.bsky.social · 30/08/2026And four, there's like 20 isekai or isekai-like shows every season. Yes, most of them aren't very high quality, but when a signifficant part of people's choices fall into one category, it's only natural that that category gets a lot of attention 100
killermenpl @killermenpl.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Third point, and the one that's the most important here. The data only covers the currently airing season, and the isekai shows that are topping the list are sequel seasons of the most popular anime shows in general. If this season had only one such big isekai, I'm sure the data would be different 100
killermenpl @killermenpl.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Ammend to the previous comment. I misread the article and the data actually separated 35-49 and 50-64. That one is on me. 100
killermenpl @killermenpl.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Secondly, the age group of 35-64 is huge. This is a minor point, but when the "bucket" covers half of the dataset range, it's not unlikely that there's a difference between data on one end of the rande and the data on the other end 100
killermenpl @killermenpl.bsky.social · 30/08/2026There's a couple things one should be aware of when analyzing that article. First, it's analyzing viewing habits of Japaneese people watching anime on a device from a specific brand. It's an indication of some trends, but you shouldn't think that it is the same everywhere 110

killermenpl @killermenpl.bsky.social · 03/06/2026Another great option is just googling "[specific pose] art reference" and sending those. I once sent one such googled reference, the artist changed it slightly to make more sense with the character, and it turned out great. Much better than whatever ai could vomit out 040

killermenpl @killermenpl.bsky.social · 27/05/2026IMO 2nd season does what you want even more. There's a whole lot of little worldbuilding moments, a bunch of "everyday life", and for most of the show there's only a bit of action per episode, with one beautiful action sequence to capstone it 120
