Listened to a lot of metal albums in September after asking some people for recommendations. Good stuff, and I got more recs to listen to now too. Otherwise, I couldn't neglect a bit of electronic music and a bit of Malice Mizer who got Gackt on board for the two albums after their first one here.

Interesting ending to the tennis Grand Slams this year at the US Open. Wanted Rybakina to win the women's final. She won with some very clean ball striking, and I like her overall demeanour. Was rooting for Shelton in the men's final and he didn't succeed, but it was a fun match to watch.

Today's Nintendo Direct was fine. Of the new games announced, I'm most likely to buy Eternal Anima and the new Kirby game.

Did some research last night into a series of computers released in 80s Japan: the PC-88 and PC-98. Popular series such as Ys and Touhou and visual novels like YU-NO were first published on them. Pretty fascinating. It's a different universe versus the typical PC and console ecosystems we think of.

Got started with a nice jazz compilation in August, followed by some recommendations and electronic music from the SuperSweep collective. Really appreciate how relatively often musicians like Hiroshi Okubo and Takahiro Eguchi release new great tracks and the connections they have.

Every time I boot up Donkey Kong Bananza I think "Haha monkey mode" and have some fun for at least 2 hours. It seems like I'm near the end of it. Sometimes it feels like it overstays its welcome, but today's session was enjoyable the whole way through. Perhaps it's really dependent on the level.

Re-listened to "Moon - The Area Of Influence" by Jeff Mills. It's a hypnotic techno and ambient album themed around our strange relationship with the moon and the rest of space. I like its high pitches, chimes, harshness and mechanical sounds. Found it when looking for music in physical shops.

Tokyo Nu-School Of Jazz is a cool compilation of jazz, dance and related calmer Japanese music. It also features a cover of "September"! YouTube definitely gave me this because I already enjoy Jazzida Grande, FreeTEMPO and i-dep. Loving "Harbor" and "Life from the sun"; both very uplifting tracks.

Read Watanare volume 1. After all the antics and spicy situations, there’s a heartwarming aspect to the story that shines through. It's that you can relate to people who seem out of your league, given I've learned later in life that "leagues" are an unhelpful mental perception of others in school.

Started listening to vtuber music and delved into more from artists I really like such as TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND and FreeTEMPO. The remix collection of Monster's OST is also quite good. Artists such as Deafheaven and Helen Love provided additional variety. Really happy with this.

Did you know that the anime Monster got an official remix album? From the jazz adaptation of the OP theme "GRAIN" to the dark techno rendition of "Drift Mind", I like it a lot. I particularly like the atmosphere of the electronic tracks and one of my favourite artists FreeTEMPO also contributed.

The Wimbledon men's singles final was pretty tense with some monstrous serving from Zverev, but Sinner as usual against him never lost a game while serving. Liked how scary Zverev seemed but then how Sinner remained stable with some great athleticism as well. Sinner could possibly win 25 majors.

Ended the first half of 2026 by listening to multiple recommendations, exploring more releases from electronic artists I like and diving into BAND-MAID before attending their concert. Really enjoyable all around. Lots of bangers.

Listened to another electronic album by Nobuyoshi Sano (AKA sanodg) who has contributed to the Ridge Racer and Tekken soundtracks over the years. I really like his synth work that's also featured in another release of his: Brightness. His music can be intense, energetic and groovy.

Went to see BAND-MAID live. Some of their songs include the OP themes to Rock Is a Lady's Modesty and Platinum End but they made a lot of other good tracks. It was fun. Here's a bit of "Ready to Rock" and then "Unleash!!!!!". [Flashing lights; audio only on the right for some reason]

Roland Garros 2026 in tennis is over and it was a chaotic tournament with a lot of upsets, but it was refreshing. The runner-up Cobolli and players such as Arnaldi, Jódar and Menšík gained new fans not to mention Fonseca winning against Djokovic. Looking forward to the future of tennis yet again.

There's nothing like repeatedly retrying a Dragon Quest boss for a couple of hours until it simply (almost) never uses the move that causes you to fail and then you win. To be fair, I did forge new equipment and level up just a little bit too.

After adoring the soundtrack for so long, I actually beat ChainDive. It's a fun obscure PS2 action game that's most known for its techno-inspired music by Yuji Takenouchi AKA TECHNOuchi and Hideyuki Eto. It seems like it wasn't released outside of Japan given its niche appeal and amount of dialogue.

Tim Cain is the creator of Fallout and he makes good videos while knowing that he has a limited perspective. Most useful thing here is that genre labels on games are extremely important. If I want to broaden my game taste though, I should place less emphasis on those. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GdE...

Ended March and went into April listening to two anime soundtracks before more electronic albums. TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND is awesome and I continued Carl Craig's discography after Landcruising and having watched the Desire documentary. Then saw Octave One and Craig play sets live in-person.

Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club Final Chapter Part 2 is a beautiful movie and it's the best Love Live! movie with only Part 1 a bit behind it. Watching it was a great way to start celebrating the 10th anniversary of me beginning to watch this franchise.

Saw artists Octave One and Carl Craig (with Jon Dixon) perform sets live. It was a good night. There was another artist Ash Lauryn before them who was also good. Didn't recognise most of the tracks but I did know "Black Water" by Octave One and "Desire" by Carl Craig.

I'm listening to full music albums and EPs more often. Out of all the ones I've included in my charts though, there are many that I've only listened to once but still liked to some extent. It's probably worth going back to some of those. Also just revisited a good track by Ron Trent today.

Good shoot 'em up doujin music albums never get old and one that I like is Battle Garegga Anthology (based on Battle Garegga). The arrangements can be relatively straightforward, but they still contain blood-pumping and groovy energy like the original music has. Favourite tracks are 02, 07 and 0D.

Been thinking about what to put less attention on in my life and I've just about had it with scrolling through Twitter reading random things. Too many distractions. Looking at what specific people post elsewhere and having higher-quality and more direct interactions sounds much more appealing!

Happy Console Gamer doesn't give much in-depth analysis on particular aspects of games. But his enthusiasm is unmatched, and most importantly, he always has an interesting story to tell. That's what makes him fun to watch. He had a varied upbringing with different experiences.

I really like this scene in Mayonaka Heart Tune episode 6. Yamabuki implies that he's truly had a lot of fun helping the girls out, and it makes him more likeable by giving him higher aspirations. The music is great at conveying his happy and anticipatory emotions towards the present and future too.

Just remembered again that “Tadpole Dance” from Black Lagoon is a very iconic track. It transports you to the setting instantly. I like that it sounds a bit mysterious, like there's something more going on beneath the world's surface. It's also pretty relaxing in general. Composed by EDISON

This isn't directly related to the tweet attached, but it reminded me that even when I watched Love Live! for the first time as a teenage boy, I felt that there was some small internal conversation happening between the importance I was putting on behaving masculine and the series itself. [1/4]

Carlos Alcaraz won the Aus Open and is the youngest tennis player to have won all 4 major tournaments during his career. I wish Djokovic had gotten his 25th Grand Slam today, but Carlos deserved it. Him, Sinner or someone else can definitely win the most singles Grand Slams in history eventually.

Novak Djokovic just won the Australian Open semi-final against Jannik Sinner who he had not beaten since 2023. No one expected him to win like this. It was an incredible performance and a tense match. Looking forward to the final against Carlos Alcaraz.

I like Sentenced to Be a Hero so far with how sharp it looks; the animation; the world and characters; and the music. E.g. the soft and mystical vocal music used in episode 2 is quite majestic, also with how it enhances the scenery and conveys mystery behind what's happening and what seals are.

Music composers sometimes re-interpret similar ideas they've previously had when making new tracks. In anime, my current favourite example of this is in Love Live! Superstar!! when Yoshiaki Fujisawa remembers an earlier series he composed for. Have you discovered any of these yourself?

It's strange to realise that a piece of music featured in an anime soundtrack you like isn't actually used in the anime at all. Arpeggio of Blue Steel and Kaiji have a track each that are examples of this. I'm sure the sound or music directors didn't use them for certain reasons.

Relistened to a hard electronic and ambient album titled "Dark Rain" that's based on the shoot 'em up DoDonPachi DaiOuJou. I really enjoy the harsh noise that washes you away, but there are also some calm, whimsical and generally energising parts. It's really both intense and calming.
