Anyway, i am realizing this might have been the catalyst for being extra reactive towards theft today. On the other side of all that, it's been a lovely day filled with lovely people who push that negative back down, and I appreciate all of them. Even if the icky memories surface a little.

I was with my ex for nearly 15 years. They used to work nearly all my events with me. I'm currently engaged to V, who is a lovely human. I don't like to share what happened in the time in-between the two. It makes certain con interactions *very* difficult for me. Extremely.

So, someone came by my booth today and said, "So, I haven't seen your partner in a long time." Now, it's been a slow day, and I was not in professional mode, so I did not give them the polite business answer when I replied, "That's because he left for there woods and never returned, so, SAME."

The group of furries who rallied to me turned my grump back into joy. 😭 It's been a slow event. I'm mostly here for vibes, but theft hurts EXTRA hard when, all things considered, I'm going to make less than the order for the Stellar Chonks cost me out of pocket. I don't want them stolen 😅

I have people who shyly ask permission before taking a business card, and I respect and prefer that behavior over those who weaponize their incompetence "of course this is meant for me to trade my junk giveaway pin"

The person who traded it might not even know the furry who originally commissioned the pins. I see these pins given away for free or traded all the time. Very few people want a pin of someone else's OC they have no connection with.

For extra context, furries buy these fursona pins in bulk and while it's GREAT to trade with friends, or at trade panels, I've had folk ask for trades in lieu of BUYING from me. But at least they ASK. This is my job. My cats can't eat Fursona pins.

Especially annoyed because I normally keep the trade pin RIGHT next to me, but risked it being a few feet away because furries are usually trustworthy.

Yeah, like, if the person came back and apologized, I'd forgive them, buuut I've too often seen people try and trade these fursona pins for MUCH more expensive pins. It's why I originally stopped bringing a free for all trade board. They buy the pins in bulk then try to trade for what they want.

It's very slow, so they should have asked. When its clearly a pin belonging to the artist and right next to blind bags, it might NOT be a "trade for whatever you want" pin. (I know you know this!) I think it was a couple guys who did it when I turned my back to adjust originals.

I can't believe I've been doing cons for 15 years. Like, it's weird to me that there are people who will approach me and go, "I bought this from you 14 years ago. It's my most favorite art and I look at it every day. " And they hold up their phone and its like:

Hotels are SO MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THEY USED TO BE and by GOD there is no hotel so expensive I won't stay an extra night rather than do THAT again unless there is no other choice. I had to sleep in the car to get Sekhmet home for her spay. Took me a week to recover.

I'm going to bed early at the hotel. Con setup isn't until tomorrow. I'm almost 40, and long since passed are the years where I would drive all night with my ex partner, take turns sleeping on the back seat, timing our drive to align with the loading dock opening. I don't know HOW I did that?!

Taxidermy is an art form that can extend an animal's life, especially when being used to honor the animal (as long as things are ethically sourced) My mom was a biology teacher, and inherited a room full of preserved animals, and they were used to encourage learning. Kinda cooler than rotting away!

If you want a bat for Halloween, might I suggest one of our hand made leather critters. No taxidermy, and our leather is a by-product of the beef industry, so no endangered species. Plus, they're posable, and can be used as a key ring or bag charm! In a variety of colors. FrostnEmberCreations.com
