The idea is that after each trial, the experiment fits a Bayesian model to the data so far and picks the next stimulus expected to be most informative. A Stan model compiled to WebAssembly runs the inference right on the participant's machine.

A few days at the @jspsych.org Summer Hackathon 2026 turned into jspsych-ado: adaptive Bayesian experimental design that runs in the browser along with any jspsych experiment. It adapts each what it presents on each trial to what it has learned from a participant's earlier responses:

New preprint🔊🧓: Why do we trust our friends more? We show that people are more efficient at evaluating information when making trust decisions about friends. This is preserved across the adult life span. W/ @jjfcastrellon.bsky.social . Feedback welcome: osf.io/tkpmv_v1

New preprint🔊: Choices about neuromodulation treatments hinge not just on what we weigh—but when. People tend to consider risks before benefits, and timing varies with traits like risk preference. W/ bskyless Brian kim & John Medaglia. Feedback welcome: osf.io/54kfy_v1

Was just hanging out, catching up on some YouTube, and watching this talk by @glupyan.bsky.social. Then, for the first time, in all the times I’ve seen the dress, it changed colors for me. I don’t think I’ll ever feel the same. Documenting this moment.

I have been loving Waymo in LA. That said, I can’t help but think of all the unsettling ways an adversarial scenario could arise in the wild. Leaves me feeling uneasy in the car at times for sure.

🚨📄 New preprint: "Preference Centrality, but Not Set Similarity, Predicts Choices Between Sets" (osf.io/preprints/ps...). With @umakarma.bsky.social and Ian Krajbich, we investigate how people choose between sets of items. We propose measuring similarity in preferences using ratings and networks.
