Apple Numbers is so close to being usable. But not having some sort of Power Query equivalent is really annoying, makes me have to do more steps than I would want to update/add data

Fable 5.1 with Design Skill created the first AI designed website that I have nothing too bad to say about! Though, the copywriting is a bit cringe/wrong at a few parts. And I do not like the other 4 designs it made (some of which have good but poorly-executed ideas) www.whichai.dev/with-design-...

I'm forced to use Facebook by my friends in Vietnam, but man is the clientside actual dogwater (at least for the website). Random frame drops, broken scrolling, broken UI states, textareas rejecting Vietnamese text for no reason??? What is going on at Meta Platforms

Apparently, <details> and multicolumn layout do not mix well in Firefox. It took me a bit to figure out why one element was mysteriously growing in size every repaint🤒 #CSS #WebDev

#OrionBrowser advertises itself as faster or just as fast as Safari. I tested it and its scrolling seems much jankier? I don't know what changes they made; I don't like it I also tried #WaterFox, and it seems to be running an old version of Firefox that doesn't support color-mix(); uninstalled, sry

#CSS #WebDev `column-width: var(--width);` and `column-count: var(--count);` replicate: display: grid-lanes; grid-template-columns: repeat(var(--count), minmax(min(100%, var(--width)), 1fr)) Except sane syntax & `column-count` acts like a "max count", which is not possible in regular grid at all🤔

It is me or does doing design/code for long stretches time give you brainrot? No, really. Compared a few months ago when I consistently consumed a crapton of technical math videos, my brain feels very different (foggy?). It's like I lost my ability to concentrate properly on a problem

I wish `run-in` was a real display-outside value, because it would be helpful for components that have arbitrary children: <article> {#if has_summary} <span style="display: run-in flex;"><Icon />Summary: </span> {/if} {@render children()} </article> Probably the only use case it has #CSS #WebDev

The browser-provided sans-serif font is ever so slightly off-center in Gecko/Firefox, but I want to use it for performance reasons ughhhhhh. The text-box there includes the descender, but in Chrome & Safari it is trimmed to the alphabet🤒 #CSS #Frontend #WebDev

Does anyone know why in Chrome a giant, solid color internal layer with the highest z-index (but painted close last) covering the entire page appears? It accounts for like half of the compositor's resources🤒 It's the only thing I don't understand being promoted #CSS #WebDev #FrontEnd

Wait, this is so interesting thanks to <button> being a form control. Some behavior only possible with :has(:has()) may be possible using this... wow! <object> & <fieldset> don't seem to work with this even though it is a "labelable" form control according to MDN

Grid-lanes is incredibly useful. I keep noticing ways to use it know that I know it exists I thought it would be niche, but damn is it good for everything. It is like superpowered flow layout grid + grid-template-areas + grid-lanes + subgrid blows!! Just waiting for good enough support #CSS

I have a vague worry that, as we put more and more computation into CSS, web devs are going to end up with performance issues that are difficult to trace to their source compared to JS solutions. The answer is to surface this in DevTools I guess.

Trying to reduce resources used by the Compositor is so annoying sometimes. The explanation given for promotion are too vague or there is no explanation at all🤒 What I learned: absolute positioning is evil; manage layout containment carefully; backdrop-filter is the worst #WebDev #CSS

#Frontend #WebDev Webkit is not faster than Blink at all. Quite the opposite I experience 2x-3x better day-to-day performance on an M1 Air on Helium vs Safari. And, despite what people may think, it doesn't even incur that much more memory footprint!

A while back, I tried to make my own text-highlighting function that works on real and complex DOM elements. I wanted Claude to make it for me, but the code literally didn't work at all, so I ended up manually coding & learning the Selection API and TreeWalker😵‍💫Half-works with browser inconsistencies

On #Svelte, I wish there was a way to scope styles to a {#snippet} itself. Of course, once something gets large enough, it's time to split stuff into multiple files. But there exists an awkward middle ground where it would be nice if the styles were closer to snippet markup

I should probably make my own personal site and have a blog there. I have a lot of weird #CSS opinions but I don't think anyone would read it, so it may end up being another design exercise. Currently occupied with one passion project right now, so after I finish it I'll make my site, woo #WebDev

I design stuff by manually coding it and iterating on what I imagine in head and what I like in progress. I love grid-template-areas a lot, because it makes implementation super easy. Grid is amazing for layout! I only use Flexbox for flex-wrap lol (which can do layout for multi-sized items) #CSS

The way #CSS work in native #Svelte sucks. Can't style children components in parent!!! I use Svelte, because rawdogging HTML, CSS, and JS was a mistake; I ended up reinventing JSX, reactivity, et al... Now, I know regular CSS is quite limiting too. The next projects I will try PandaCSS

Are there more optimization methods to reduce resources used by the compositor thread? I know I can change z-indexes to shave off mbs used from unnecessary promotions, or replace some <span>s with pseudo-elements to reduce the weight of promotions #CSS #WebDev

Disappointed with #CSS anchor-positioning considering `@position-try` has a restrictive set of property descriptors. I wanted to make a pop-in effect change its `transform-origin` based on which `position-area` it was in, but unfortunately not possible + `anchor()` is not valid in `transform-origin`

i love how in Safari, `ex` and `ch` gently grow/shrink in absolute size the more your browser zooms. This makes layout and elements ever so slightly misaligned, stretches paragraphs at a length it shouldn't. And, ultimately trashes your entire #CSS, forcing you to rewrite everything using `em`❤️

Dear God, how in the world will Safari 27's describe-an-extension-and-itll-be-created even work. It has to be really limited, like cant-modify-pages limited or it'll 100% fail to deal with the nonsense DOM rendering and #CSS hell webpages tend to have. All they showed is that it adds to the toolbar😬

Has anyone tried replacing all `@media` size queries with a `@container` query equivalent? I did two small experiments and personally it isn't that hard to deal with the side effects these days. `@container` is much more pleasant and easier to reason about than `@media` tbh #CSS #WebDev #Frontend
