Yes, Lincoln was a Republican, (making him a bleeding heart liberal at the time). But he won reelection in 1864 as the nominee of the National Union Party (not the GOP) with a Democrat as his vice president: Andrew Johnson.

To start, the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as a liberal, anti-slavery, pro-immigrant, populist party. At the same time, the Democratic Party was the conservative, pro-slavery, anti-immigrant party. Party ideologies flipped in the mid 20th century to form the parties we know today.

A sitting president threatening military force against a NATO ally is an impeachable offense. The United States Senate, which has sole authority to enter into treaties, ratified the North Atlantic Treaty on July 21st, 1949. Violating this treaty is a high crime against the state.
