My parents are out of town for the week, I'm dogsitting and I have their car. I drove in the suburbs today 😬 I cannot believe I used to do that every day. It's horrible. That said, it was amazing to be able to buy $200 of groceries at once and buy stuff I can't order online.

We have a greater responsibility than ever to make sure we’re amplifying truth and not just what we want to believe. Think about what happens if we can’t trust anyone or anything. Society collapses. Don’t pollute the information environment with unsourced and unverified images.

Assume images with no source are AI until proven otherwise. If someone is telling the truth they will tell you where the information came from.

You can upload audio files to ChatGPT now and get transcriptions. I tried it with a Ukrainian file and a mixed Ukrainian/Russian file and it was *flawless.* I'm working on a script that will download a video, convert it to mp3, upload to ChatGPT and get a transcription and translation.

You may be right. But if people are unwilling to pay for it, and the companies fold, then that solves the problem for people who are anti-LLM and/or anti-GenAI. It also may become much cheaper, like most other tech has, or people will be willing to absorb higher costs, like with Netflix.

You'd be right to say that those things do not cause societal harm (excepting labor issues w/gig workers). So I think a stronger argument is to focus on the societal & environmental harms and not "you could do this with another tool." It's fine if you don't find it useful, but clearly millions do.

There are indeed other options to most uses for LLMs. However, a lot of it is increased convenience. We use a lot of other replacement tools. Most people use auto-bill pay instead of writing a check and mailing it. Calculators. Delivery instead of going to a store. Photoshop. Map software.
