Godzilla, King of the Monsters! (1956) ⭐️⭐️✨ The Good: Quasi-lobotomized for an American release, it’s still 60% of the original Godzilla, and was many’s first exposure. Theatrical poster is awesome! The reporter was inserted into stuff as well as could be, to explain and translate for Americans.
Poster for the American release of Godzilla, which was heavily edited. Raymond Burr, playing the journalist. He’d later play Perry Mason. Godzilla, looming large over tanks and artillery. Godzilla, walking towards train tracks with a bridge in the foreground.

Godzilla (1954) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Good: It’s Godzilla! Awoken by the Bomb, his destruction of Tokyo has a jarring inevitability - slow, unstoppable, and unyielding. Black and white does Godzilla justice and makes him appear that much more scary. Human story very good, and all effects are awesome!
Godzilla (1954) behind a bridge and approaching some train tracks. Godzilla in black and white, approach high power lines. Godzilla’s standing against a line of artillery. Godzilla, wading toward several bridges.

Over the summer the wife and I watched all the Showa era Godzillas and now she’s interested in rewatching them all again (❤️) while keeping a film journal on her thoughts on ‘em. With stickers! So I’ll be doing that too and probably sharing my thoughts! Not a Zilla account, but may become one.

Finished Elden Ring at the start of the year and then made my way through this 500 page tome on the lore of it…well written, but how much Elden Ring is too much Elden Ring? Would recommend for the very interested, but you gotta be very interested! #booksky

Over the weekend I discovered fry pies at a bakery, which are essentially what Hostess Pies were back in the 80s. Except these are much healthier, cause nothing was worse for you than those Hostess Pies back then. (Nothing) Loved me those lemon ones!

Sign seen on my run over the weekend, it’s rained like 4x what it should in August in Columbus. The sign wasn’t halfway underwater the week before. Eight inches of rain killed my radishes and turnips…squishy as soon as they were pulled. 🫩 🥕

Squash and zucchini were getting out of control, but thanks to a bunch of uncontrollable squash moths, guess we won’t be having any more this year.🐛 🦋 All that you see was nibbled up, and so it was almost completely ripped out. Maybe next year.

Can see why it’s popular - just a fun read! Normally I don’t start series that are being written, but Dungeon Crawler Carl was a blast! Maybe the only tiniest criticism is that there are a lot of rules the book follows, but maybe that mirrors Carl’s confusion as he learns ‘em. Recommended! #booksky

Saw a really really old man wearing a World War II Veteran hat today, and just an hour or two later saw someone wearing a clearly well-worn and loved mid 1990s Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls jersey. World is still full of good people, I’m happy to report.

First spotting of Halloween candy this year was at the CVS on July 10th…it’s almost here!! 🎃 Still trying to find candy corn in the wild before the 4th of July, and I’m sure one day I’ll accomplish that! (Should have posted this immediately, but things have been busy).

Came recommended, but it proved average…the setting was really the best part of the book, and there was spooky stuff and lots of bugs, little hungry bugs. Lots of bugs doing gross bug things! Felt underwhelming but I have meant to read one of the author’s other books. May still do that. #booksky

This 250th Independence Day, I think of my first ancestor who came over to New Jersey in the mid/late 1600’s with his family. Bought so much land, he was given a wife as part of the purchase. His current wife didn’t like that. Later, he was hung for horse thievery. Proud nation of immigrants! 🎆 🇺🇸 🎆

Killer Crabs, bought for the cover alone, was so bad I wanted to quit with 30 pages left in a 160 pager. 50% crabs, 50% 1978 smut, the crabs had previously invaded Wales (huh?) in a prior book and in this one it was Australia. One line was, “…and they hated boats most of all.” Okay buddy. #booksky

It took 5 months, but I finally finished the unabridged, 1000 page Romance of the Three Kingdoms!! The major characters - Zhuge Liang, Cao Cao, Liu Be, Lord Guan - are really well fleshed-out and you don’t realize how impressive the novel’s structure is until the end but it’s so worth it! #booksky

Lovin’ how the public library notifies me by snail mail that they can’t run my monthly $20 donation from my credit card before my bank lets me know it was in a data breach and had to be spiked. Bonus: Verizon just ran the dead card and said “Thanks for your payment!” Whatever, y’all.

When the weather’s nice at work I like to eat outside under the canopy and I guess some baby birds hatched in the nest behind the light boxes. Their constant peeping is rather sweet, in a different way from the chickens back at home. One day they’ll be feasting on the crumbs I drop!
