You can’t reach a new country by traveling familiar roads. Adapted from St John of the Cross

Well, this is kinda amusing. My pic is on the cover of our local paper, plus I did much of the design work for the PVLIP ad at the bottom of the page. I’m interviewed for a story about our community free store, plus there is an article about and letter from the PV Antiracism Team I’m a member of.

In a few weeks I move from being a Community Liaison at PVLIP to being Executive Director of 500 Stephen Community Centre in Morden. It is a return to my favourite work of providing a place of hospitality.

Reading Dorothy Day’s Spiritual Writings for a Catholic Worker’s book group and am reminded once again of the spiritual depth of this great woman.

A life of prayer means being alert for each opportunity to stop and notice.

I’m spending part of my holidays reading this lovely book, “Being Generous: The Art of Right Living.” I just finished a chapter on receiving, an act which is often more challenging than giving. One of the greatest gifts one can give another is to fully receive (be present to) the other.

I spent 20 years doing repair and conservation work in libraries so I always smile when I see this stamp in our local library books. Oh, the challenges of “helpful” library patrons.

I see people posting 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. You are supposed to post 1 a day with no explanations. I'm bad at following directions. Here are 4 books that have most significantly influenced me. I guess they are all about a life of prayer.
Books stacked on each other: The Sacrament of the Present Moment, The Rule of St. Benedict, The Practice of the Presence of God, The Way of the Pilgrim

I work with immigrant settlement in southern Manitoba and I’ve heard many stories of experiences of “nice Canadians” like those from this column in our local paper.
