No - In the Nostr ecosystem you generally use a browser extension that Nostr applications call to sign things. A UX tradeoff for sure.

That you have to trust someone else.

I guess in the case of Nostr you would have to trust yourself 🤷‍♂️ but there absolutely is no requirement that you trust someone else.
110
Kevin Åberg Kultalahti @kevinak.se · 18/08/2026
I don’t think this is true. Bluesky made a conscious decision to not have the users handle their own keys in order to make the UX better. That’s it why you must trust your PDS. Other systems (Nostr for example) made different tradeoffs that don’t require any trust at all.

Not at all! It’s the case for 99.99+% of users on the network. 🤷‍♂️

It’s almost as if these “decentralised” atproto apps aren’t decentralised. 🤷‍♂️

If you're using Tailscale you should switch to nostr-vpn: github.com/mmalmi/nostr... No need to rely on a centralized if you don't have to.

Most folks laughed when I self-hosted the Svelte Society infrastructure at home last year, but these pricing increases make it feel pretty good 😅 About €1,000 for a Minisforum UM790 Pro with 64 GB DDR5 and 4 TB of SSD storage in RAID. minisforumpc.eu/products/min...

More readable than multi-workspace Claude Code. Let's me modify scripts and instructions depending on what I want to do etc, using a simple interface. I'm sure it's similar to many other tools.

In an age of LLMs and streaming text, we need to stop trying to get markdown to play ball and restrict the syntax. I specced a stricter markdown sub(er)set several years ago and wondered if it was strict enough to support true streaming. Turns out penguin flavoured markdown was ahead of its time.

Very good question! The issue with Discord is unfortunately that we can't extract any kind of data or messages from there without breaking the ToS (afaik). That's problemtic. Ideally we can do Society -> Discord via bot mirroring. But I'm not the one who makes these decisions!

Yes, exactly. However - since you don't have control over the relay you can't be 100% sure that your data will persist forever. A solution is to connect to multiple relays. I just released a self-healing feature that syncs missing events to relays as well. Should be good enough.
010
Kevin Åberg Kultalahti @kevinak.se · 19/03/2026
It's local-first (the data stays on your device) so it's instant. If you're talking about the relays then that depends on where they are hosted. If it's on the other side of the world it's going to take longer to sync than if it's close by.
010
Kevin Åberg Kultalahti @kevinak.se · 19/03/2026
Private even to the cloud provider (or the Nostr relay in Tablinums case). The data is encrypted before it leaves the users device.
100
Kevin Åberg Kultalahti @kevinak.se · 19/03/2026
I'd pick Tablinum if you want something that's fully encrypted and private. Even if you ran your own relay you wouldn't be able to read any of the data. If you give it a go, let me know if you run into any issues or have any feedback! 🙏

I haven't yet! I'm starting work on converting my exercise application that is currently using Dexie and a SQLite server: gym.kevinak.se I haven't tried it with lots of people but in terms of scaling, Nostr relays are already built for scale so I don't expect that to be an issue.
