This weekend I have spent quite a bit of time playing Galaxian and Galaga and I can see the arguments for and against each one. I have avoided Galaga 88 as last time I played it I couldn't stop.

Next Wednesday for the next North Bristol Retro meet and I will be bringing a few machines from my pile of retro rubbish as always. Might be the last one this year but that is yet to be confirmed. retro.directory/browse/event...

It is a great game, I think maybe the only Final Fantasy game I've completed more than once.

They are interesting to collect as sometimes it's not always obvious how great the games are based on the label alone. Lots of fun to be had!

Time to try and distract the kids with a box of untested Famicom games.

Probably still my favourite album ever. I also think seeing DJ Shadow live a few times over the last 30 years have been amongst the best nights out.

Kev Armstrong @kevarmstrong.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

Nice! I think they are fantastic machines.

Yeah it's a Master, and the slots were used for ROM and I believe RAM cartridges. I have yet to find any yet though.

I got myself a slightly late birthday present. Looking forward to getting it working and maybe a few modern enhancements.

It's finished! Amiga Rescue is my new puzzle game for the Commodore #Amiga built in #AMOS and inspired by the machine we still love repairing and upgrading decades later. You can download it for free or give an optional donation, but please don't feel you have to: stevehiggins.itch.io/amiga-rescue

A shiny new video! I've barely used the growing number of CPC464 machines that appeared over the years in my workshop because loading software is restricted to tapes only. If only someone had open sourced a clever device that solved this problem... Oh look! They have!

Can you load 6,000 pieces of software on an 8-bit Amstrad?

VU meters, well done autocorrect.

Kev Armstrong @kevarmstrong.bsky.social · 22/08/2026

This evening's project was building this Amiga A600 with its very unnecessary UV meters and fancy black case. A framethrower on a 600 is pretty cool. Now I need some better keycaps.

Thanks to @samcoupe.com posting a picture of an awesome collection of books on the Retro Hardware Discord, I’ve realised that I learnt C programming 30 years ago this month. That is kind of disturbing and also pretty cool.

This one of the greatest albums ever made. Thank you!

I bought my kids an N64 and it’s actually made them play nicely together for once. Thank you Super Mario 64.

I’m spending what’s left of Father’s Day cleaning an Amiga A600 keyboard I bought from eBay which was frankly horrific in its level of filth.

Ok. I am gutted and really sorry to say that the servers are all gone. Over 1600 members on RHD and some lowlife deleted it forever with a click. Also stole a bunch of money from my account. I will make an update video and post that here when I get home. Whatever happens we are going to rebuild.

In the UK there seems a definite correlation between the size of company selling Amiga upgrades and the number of weeks until delivery. Definitely another case where supporting the smaller companies benefits everyone, they get a sale and you get your parts without passing away from old age.

I’ve been playing games on the Game Gear in the garden. Winter might finally be over.

Kev Armstrong @kevarmstrong.bsky.social · 11/06/2026

The size will make it usable, and they keyboard too for that matter. It’s going to be a cool machine.

We had @modernvintagegamer.com’s Amiga conversion of Zippy Race on the Amiga at the Retro gaming meet tonight. I didn’t get the high score. I did beat my cousin on MVS SNK vs Capcom a few times though so not a total loss.

Here is a cool video of Holly, Richard, Dan, Jason and Neil from @retrocollective.co.uk "doing" my Mr Do! arcade cabinet. I'm so happy about this that I actually can't wait to see it in person. www.youtube.com/watch?v=443g...

Retrofest was amazing today. Just like my photo taking skills. There were an impressive amount of cool old computers and things on show, and many friendly people to talk to.

Earlier this year me and @kevarmstrong.bsky.social fired up an #Amiga and got our heads into some #retro code to put together an original AMOS game that we're calling 'Montauk Protocol'. We hope to get it finished this summer. Here's how we're doing... www.higgypop.com/blog/montauk...

Making A Retro Computer Game Using 90s Tech After 30 Years

I'm attempting to make and release a new Amiga game in AMOS using classic 1990s technology, as I rediscover retro computer game development after 30 years.

I managed to break my Dreamcast to the point where it won’t boot games or accept controller inputs all by turning it on. Something else to go in the never ending pile of machines to repair.

I spent a few hours trying to get a PiStorm to fit on the Amiga A600 cpu whilst looking after one of the children. It didn’t go as well as I had hoped.

I've had a cold for the best part of 3 weeks. Every time it feels like it's going away it comes back full-on the next day. I should eat an apple or something, maybe.

A few keys only worked intermittently due to failing solder joints on the switches, like these. Took no time to fix luckily.
