Monkey Island 1 and 2 original game boxes and Grim fandango remastered game box (I have the original but this fit the other 2 stylistically better) with Scott C's big Psychonauts family photo picture underneath

Star Wars Zero Company and Star Wars: Galactic Racer. I didn't expect 2 great Star Wars games this year but here we are. Well Dweller because I can't resist a good Metroidvania. It's cute, and sort of dark and twisted but not in an edgy way.

Playing 3 games at once right now (4 if I count Thank You Bus Driver and you know what I do, that game is excellent and you should buy it next week) But it's so busy right now I spend my late evenings zoning out for a couple of hours before I can contemplate videogames so these may last me a while

"GTA has never focused on politics" *immediately comes up with a counterexample*
Quote from article: If you go back to previous GTAs, there's never really been much focus on national politics," said Rupert Humphries, senior vice president of narrative of Rockstar. "The rise of Homeland Security and the Patriot Act were pretty central to GTA 4, but that was mainly because post-9/11 New York was a real frontline for those issues.

If you don't know Cardiacs I'd start with either Sing to God or A Little Man A House & The Whole World Window. Both are decent entry points.

Cardiacs Deerhoof's middle period (around Milk Man through Mountain Moves) Kinda boring answer but: the latter half of the Beatles They Might Be Giants Blueberry Boat by The Fiery Furnaces Those all are typical of my sonic tastes but i think someone like Janelle Monae would count too.

That could mean a lot of melody, a lot of chords, a lot of different things happening rhythmically or sonically, or some combination of the three. If I listen to it and feel like there's a lot to unpack chances are it'll interest me

Had a small realisation last night that you could describe my musical taste as maximalist. It's not that I can't enjoy minimalist music, but it's not what I am naturally drawn to. I like music with a lot of music in it.

Something else I am finding joyful about it is so much of it you can't explain after the fact. I can't tell you why it was satisfying to find the line 'Neil Kinnock was in his element' conjured up from thin air, it was just a perfect moment that will never happen again and can't be deconstructed.

Also it's really interesting to me that my job used to be super easy when I started improv years ago and improvising felt like the hardest thing I had to do all week. Now the work is rewarding but constantly challenging, so improv is suddenly the easiest thing I have to do all week.

That, oh, actually I am a habitual reincorporator and that's a really useful skill to have in scenes and, ah, yes character work and scene setting is still something that I can do but takes more focus from me to really get down

Having some time away has meant now I'm back at it it's easier to see that the stuff I used to feel confident about was, in fact, still the stuff that comes most naturally to me.

Back to the improv workshops. I felt sharp, today! When I was getting back into it I had this self-doubt around things I'd always believed and were told we're my strengths but I hadn't practiced them for so long was I really good at them or had I just convinced myself I was.

They so don't matter that if I didn't have better things to do like helping the people who actually play our games, I'd be happy to tell each and every one of them to 'never buy one of our games again, hope that helps.'

I just deleted it but I wanted to mention because that these people talk about themselves like they're some common sense majority. They're not. They are an almost undetectable speck on what is otherwise a really lovely group of people who play our games (and let's be real, they probably don't).

There are rare exceptions to this but they're so rare that it's quite memorable when it happens. People giving Erika Ishii and our Social Media Manager abuse suck, but so far as far as I can tell that has resulted in one (1) angry email to Double Fine support.

Peter Silk / KestrelPi @kestrelpi.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
And I put that down to a couple of things. Firstly people just like that they were responded to by a human who tried to help (even if I can't actually help, which is sometimes!), and secondly because I really think people generally just like us and want us to do well, so why be a jerk?

Let me tell you a little bit about our Double Fine community. They're really nice. When I tell other game developers part of my job is support they tell me they don't envy my job, going through all those messages. It's not like how they imagine. People are patient and understanding.

It's Giants vs Dodgers as I leave SF today, and based purely on the names I think the Dodgers may have an easy time evading the Giants but their relatively low STR and DEF stats might still leave them vulnerable

Not all things I think of as foddyesque are fuelled by frustration. Tiny Turnip on the Playdate falls into the weird thing that needs an unfamiliar control scheme category but metes out its challenge gradually
110
Peter Silk / KestrelPi @kestrelpi.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
I'd love one day to come up with a control idea that falls into either category
110
Peter Silk / KestrelPi @kestrelpi.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Bad foddyesque games feel arbitrary and inconsistent even after a long time, good ones feel like you've always been controlling games this way once you get the hang of it
