i literally just watched jindal get patted down by TSA in the pre-check line in new orleans about an hour ago. pretty sure no one but me even knew who he was.

just watched bobby jindal go through pre-check in new orleans. he forgot to take his keys out of his pocket and was treated to the special TSA patdown. pretty sure no one but me even recognized him. and flying commercial? how embarrassing.

i don't think i did? unless you're arguing his first 4 years were somehow not authoritarian? anywho, i agree with your larger point; it's sickening how far we've fallen. my point was just that it took a lot more than 2 years to lay the foundation for what now feels like such a rapid descent.

the fundamental problem with parenthood being, of course, that you don't actually know whether you're going to like it until you try it. this guy certainly doesn't sound like he likes it.

one of the greatest sadnesses of my life is that i accidentally recorded over a cassette tape that held my dad reading dr seuss’s sleep book to me when i was small. it had both our voices and was such a treasure. 💔

these say to me that the sign holders value retribution more than people's lives, and/or think that one dead civilian is justification to kill another civilian. and i don't value hamas's leadership, like most of gaza doesn't, but it seems the sign holders do.

okay but ending with "you're eating like a dog" is at best wildly tone-deaf when a whole lot of people in this country can't afford not to. if you're eating, and you're feeding your kids, whether it's the same meal every day is not the point. one route costs less money, period. try not being a dick?

never said it wasn't a metaphor, just one that doesn't fit. maybe you should grab your sign and go protest next to the pro-palestinians about how they hate mamdani's statement too. y'all seem about equally intelligent.

we get the metaphor; we're saying it is not apt. it does not fit here. i don't see anything in the mayor's post that is metaphorically spitting on anyone. can you show me the words that do that?

we need teachers THAT BADLY. we hired a guy who'd just been on the news for committing a felony & made him a 5th grade teacher. fingerprinting takes so long that they had to start the year w/out his. apparently they didn't so much as google his name either. www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/...

hard to survey a population that only has 10 hours of electricity per day and 80% of whose water is not potable -- and that was BEFORE 10/7. also, even if that 70% were accurate, you do understand that your anecdote would not disprove it, as the other 30% could encompass your story?

i'm sort of uncomfortable with the way homelessness research traditionally refers to kids who get kicked out as "throwaways" (as opposed to "runaways," who choose to leave) but it really does capture the hideousness of the act of putting one's child on the street.

imagine typing the words "divorce" and "epidemic" in the same sentence and expecting to be taken seriously. those crazy kids wanting their parents to be kind to them, just like those silly ladies in the 70s wanting to leave abusive marriages! 🙄

but they needed to know, i think, that he was THAT serious about having his feelings acknowledged & respected. i think they were so shocked by it bc as boomers, they're not conditioned to think of kids as individuated being from parents, even when the "kids" are in our 50s! 2/2

fwiw, my husband went no contact with his parents for a few months and his objective was always to figure out how to get to a place where they could come back into our lives. he just needed to breathe & think. and to their credit, they did everything asked of them; some healing is happening. 1/2

much like i can't "do my own research" on mRNA vaccine efficacy in my living room or test for bacteria on my lettuce or screwworm eggs in my beef, the whole fucking point of the way we've arranged our society is to elevate *experts* to the places they can do the most good for everyone.

respectfully, i pay taxes specifically so that the US govt can hire teams of people with decades of expertise in military strategy, religious history, poli sci, international relations, etc. to answer this question. we randos on bsky should not be responsible for knowing what should have been done.
