I've had a slightly more positive theory - possibly cope - that the gimmicks were to give the behind the scenes crew a chance to show their skill to help them secure their next jobs. Economic and diplomatic measures, making the lives of Israeli citizens materially worse whilst making it clear Netanyahu and his policies are the cause, could swing Israeli elections and remove Netanyahu from office. Even if this wasn't the case "it might not work" isn't a reason not to act.
