A well-researched article from Politico on one of the major climate risks: the linked tipping points of the subpolar gyre #SPG and #AMOC in the Atlantic. "There’s a substantial risk that it can happen within the coming 20 years,” says @swinda.bsky.social from Utrecht Uni about SPG collapse. 🌊 1/4

Asteroids regularly slam into Earth, but in 2022 a little bit of Earth slammed into an asteroid - in the shape of NASA's DART spacecraft hitting Dimorphos. This autumn ESA's Hera spacecraft reaches this same body to try and find out: could we save Earth from an incoming asteroid? #AsteroidDay

In diesem Herbst erreicht ESAs Raumsonde Hera denselben Himmelskörper, um eine entscheidende Frage zu beantworten: Könnten wir die Erde vor einem heranfliegenden Asteroiden schützen? #AsteroidDay

Deep in the arid lands of northern Namibia, a miraculous artery of water traces the western and central border to Angola, and graces one of our planet's most beautiful waterfalls in a desert environment. #bluesky #photography #landscape #landscapephotography #naturephotography #nature #art #sunrise

I've been trying out some long-exposure photography lately. Shanghai seemed like a good place to start! A brief insight into my shortcomings in the alt text 😆 #coloraday #redwed #Photography #eck #Art #Scape #Landscape #wednesday #BlueSky #nature #longexposure #yellowthur #urbangaze #travel #china

So I showed up to this bridge in Shanghai for light trails and ran into a squad of local Chinese uncles, some sporting "Beijing bras", rocking massive, pro-grade tripods like the veterans they are. Traveling light means I don’t have room for that luxury.

So, I dropped into an Asian squat (nailed it now) right in the middle of them and whipped out my tackle, a mini tripod. Cue a round of laughter at my setup (all in good jest, of course). Kneeling and thoroughly emasculated, I pushed through the peer pressure to get this shot while everyone literally looked down on me! 😂
