I've been playing a little online chess recently and just had my best game ever tonight. I was down to my king, one rook, and two pawns; he had two rooks and three pawns. I went into squirrel mode, he chased me around for about 15 minutes. I took one his rooks, one of his pawns and he retired. 🔥🔥🔥

Keola's law number #1 has always been "if all else fails, read the manual." But in 1992 there was no path to learning Hawaiian without school. Looking back, I wish I had leaned more into my tendency to learn through curiosity, necessity, and discovery, not just curriculum and formal instruction.

I tried to coin a Hawaiian term for “quantum” as a thought experiment. I didn’t identify or coin a term that worked, but treated each failure as data. I’m now halfway through writing an academic article examining what the resistance to lexicalization reveals about the concept and the language. 🔍

Someone recommended Tolgee for developing a multi-Polynesian-language app translation system. It looked good until I saw the price 💰😱 Two evenings later I have an home-spun translation maintenance system that handles eight different languages, and you can view and edit any three at a time.

I saw my one of my daughters' grade school teachers, Kahoʻokele Crabbe, from the Hawaiian immersion program in Keaukaha. I wasn't sure he would remember me; I haven't seen him in 25 years. He looked at me for a second, I saw recognition, and he said "Aloha mai, Keoni." He always called me that 🤣

I posted a new Hawaiian keyboard on the Chrome Web Store. This is for Chrome OS and not the Chrome browser. I dislike the slash-vowel system for generating the macrons but this is the only way to get it work for now. We are working on getting a system level keyboard in the OS but don't know when.
