Ken @kenwnc.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Only an assumption, in the center, what appears to be an algal mat surrounded by the filamentous mat of an ascomycete fungus. Could it be? Could this be the beginnings of a lichen thallus? The substrate is a piece of outer bark taken from a flowering dogwood. 021

Ken @kenwnc.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Not sure of the ID but some call it a lichen spider. All that I know is that it blends in quite well on the smooth bark of our Alder trees. One has to look very close to spot them. In the winter one may find them sunning themselves on the smooth bark. They are somewhat large ~7.5mm😊 010

I read somewhere that there is a specific Cordyceps for every insect. Natures way of keeping tabs on the insect population I am assuming. I am no entomologist. 😒 000

Ken @kenwnc.bsky.social · 11/06/2026A White moth amongst blades of lawn grass, shortly after a spring rain. The abdomen appears to be swollen, suggestive of it being a female. The scent of a female bearing her eggs can attract a male over a distance of 5 miles. He will fly directly to her to mate and then die. Count your blessings🫣 040

Ken @kenwnc.bsky.social · 24/03/2026This is dangerous, I am going to "assume" this is a Spleenwort or Asplenium spp. I usually look for a dark somewhat deep purple stipe or stem but during my search to positively ID my specimen, I find that is not a common diagnostic feature in all spleenworts. 020
