I suspect there's a difference between negativity that naturally arises, without any prompting or deliberation, and negativity that arises through willful focus. I suspect natural negativity is meant to be internally felt and allowed, if not externally expressed (if we always expressed it externally, it could destroy relationships or send us to prison). And, once internally felt and allowed, I believe it naturally leaves on its own (that's my experience, anyway). Deliberately focusing on negativity (willfully focusing on it when it doesn't naturally arise) seems to prolong or amplify it. That's my experience, and it seems to be implied by studies on venting. So I try to just let it exist and be felt. Then it flows and goes all on its own.

The beauty of writing is that you can edit your manuscript to your heart's content. I've edited chapters down to a single page, turned run-on paragraphs into a single line, expanded a single scene into an entire book. You can subtract or add words until you express yourself as best as you can. There's no need to show anyone what you've written, unless you decide it's ready to be shown. That said, a bad first draft isn't a factor. You can rewrite it and edit it until it satisfies you.

As I’m walking down the street, I glance into an alley and spot a woman yanking her pants down, crouch on the pavement, and give birth to a dooker with a teeth-clenching HNNGHH! Holy shit (literally)! Is that…MARTHA STEWART??? She yanks her pants up, grabs my throat, lifts me off my feet, and pins me against the alley wall. As I’m gasping and twisting, trying to pry her fingers off my neck, she snarls, “I’m Martha Stewart—I can shit on the street when I damn well please!” Then she mutters, “You know what?

On my creative process…
I'm sure there's techniques and methodology to increasing book sales, or writing so that others look favorably on my work. I'll give them consideration--maybe implement them if it feels right or appropriate--but not if it compromises my enjoyment of writing. Financially speaking, writing is a terrible way to make money, compared to other more reliable activities. And in terms of personal validation, craving praise from others' reviews is extremely unhealthy--that's giving control of my fulfillment to the whims of the masses. So first and foremost, I enjoy it for myself. As far as the rest, let the chips fall where they may.

On my creative process…
Personally, I find it really cool when I don't really understand a movie or story, but I am still entertained by it. I attribute this to rhythm--rhythm between words, paragraphs, scenes, and chapters. Without rhythm, narrative breaks down into a technical explanation. The rhythm is what hooks my subconscious, drawing it in with a hypnotic beat, coaxing it open so the full experience can be immersive and visceral.

I wake up tied to a chair, vision blurring and resolving in fuzzy twitches. I’m in a high-rise office. Across from me… “What the FUCK???” I stiffen in horror as Elon, wearing nothing but a giant diaper, leans forward and regurgitates into Bezos and Gates’s open mouths, like a mother bird feeding her nesting young. After they gobble it down, they nuzzle his chest and nurse on his teats.

Arguably, true abundance might be contentment--everything as is, without justification, categorization, or rationalization. Being in the present, in other words, and feeling the default wellbeing that comes with that state. There's a lot to be gained from acknowledging I'll lose it all--that no matter what happens, the game of life will come to an end. Obviously, I need to generate a certain amount of stability, so I have options and choices instead of being locked into a state of constant reaction. I suppose once I have sufficient stability, I'm faced with a choice between focusing more on perpetuation, or putting my energy into more chaotic and creative pursuits. I don't see either as wrong or right; I believe it's simply a personal choice.

I love writing for a lot of reasons, but one of them is the ability to do it without figuring everything out beforehand. Everyone else seemed to know where they belonged. I wasn't so sure. Sometimes I felt like an alien pretending to be human. And every once in a while... someone would understand exactly what I meant. www.youtube.com/shorts/XSOd_jVjjtI

On my creative process… I believe we're creative by default, and that our free will lies in where we focus--on whether or not we use creativity to evoke an atmosphere of inevitability, perpetuity, hopelessness, etc. etc. Or we can focus on an influx of energy and possibility, of self-expression…

Mrrrgh… MRRGHH. Dark. Tight. Confined. Feel slow. Old. Creaky. Voices outside. One say, “We found him—we fucking found him! After the Grammar Nazi Revolution of 2026, Kent Wayne, freewheeling author and award-winning Man Whore, completely disappeared from historical records! Who would have guessed that they mummified his body??” Mummy? Me? Fuck. Crowbars show on edges of my coffin. Pry up lid and expose me to light.

Musings
Arguably, true abundance might be contentment--everything as is, without justification, categorization, or rationalization. Being in the present, in other words, and feeling the default wellbeing that comes with that state. On the other end of the spectrum, plenty of folks have had a glut of resources and time, and lived most of their lives in soul-grating shortage. Don't get me wrong, I love having money and time, but I think in terms of true abundance, they don't quite check all the necessary boxes.

On my creative process…
This may sound odd, but in regards to writing, I believe five minutes a day can be enough. I believe writing badly can be enough. I've had months where I could only write five minutes a day. I've had days where everything I wrote seemed like garbage. I don't believe any of that matters. What matters is that I showed up and wrote.
