11-year-old me playing Nintendo: “OH MAN I wish Mega Man was for real!” 43-year-old me realizing it’s becoming real, but between Musk and Altman all we’ve got are two competing Dr. Wilys:

Yes, the Brown Shirts comparison is obvious, but may I introduce you to the Black and Tans?
Screenshot of the Wikipedia page for the “Black and Tans” from the Irish War of Independence against Britain. It says:

“The Black and Tans were constables recruited into the Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) as reinforcements during the Irish War of Independence. Recruitment began in Great Britain in January 1920, and about 10,000 men enlisted during the conflict. The majority were unemployed former British soldiers from England, Scotland, and Wales who had fought in the First World War. Some sources count Irish recruits to the RIC from 1920 as "Black and Tans".

The Black and Tans had a reputation for brutality; they committed murder, arson, and looting and became notorious for reprisal attacks on civilians and civilian property. Their actions further swayed Irish public opinion against British rule and drew condemnation in Britain. The Black and Tans were sometimes confused with the Auxiliary Division, a counterinsurgency unit of the RIC, also recruited during the conflict and made up of former British officers. At the time, "Black and Tans" was sometimes used for both groups.”

Stumbled across the last third of a tv airing of Stephen King’s “Cat’s Eye” when I was 7 or 8. That damned troll haunted my nightmares for weeks.
Close-up of a frighteningly detailed practical-effects monster — troll-like and menacing, with leathery skin, jagged sharp teeth, and red, beady eyes — wearing a jester-style hat with bells, and peering over the edge of a bed at its next victim.

Splitting your situational awareness by simultaneously operating your cell-phone in one hand, while trying to handle your weapon in the other, sure seems like a funny way to demonstrate hypervigilance.

Just so we’re all clear: the color revolutions were good things, and there should’ve been more of them across the former Soviet Union. For context, Putin’s rationale for Russia’s eventual war to conquer Ukraine initially began to form in the aftermath of the 2004 Orange Revolution.
Screenshot of the introduction of the Wikipedia entry for “Colour (or Color) Revolution:”

“The colour revolutions (also spelt color revolutions)were a series of often non-violent protests and accompanying (attempted or successful) changes of government and society that took place in post-Soviet states (particularly Georgia, Ukraine, and Kyrgyzstan) and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during the early 21st century. The aim of the colour revolutions was to establish Western-style democracies. They were primarily triggered by election results widely viewed as falsified. The colour revolutions were marked by the use of the internet as a method of communication,as well as a strong role of non-governmental organizations in the protests.”

Whatever we do, once we’ve managed to get out of this, we have to make sure of the following as soon as possible:

We've now seen a sitting U.S. senator tackled + handcuffed, Marines patrolling LA, immigrants rounded up in mass arrests without due process, a governor threatened with arrest, the White House openly musing about suspending habeas corpus. That's not "tough politics," that's fascist muscle. 🧵👇

Better yet, watch the scene for yourself. This episode has some incredible quotes, but this is the scene I couldn't stop thinking about. (Dunno if this is required, but just in case: *Video shared under non-commercial, fair use principles for commentary and analysis*).

This comes at a moment in American history that evokes historic injustices like the Chinese Exclusion Act and early Immigration Acts. Targeting people by simple affiliation or nationality is just one more step to targeting ancestry (again — as we’ve seen throughout history).

Okay, guy. Good luck ordering local folks to do anything — you’re not our boss. The student being targeted is a teenager. A young athlete who’s done nothing wrong. A teen isn’t a national punching bag for political points, and this isn’t defending fairness— it’s bullying a kid to rile up the base.
A Truth Social post by Donald Trump containing the following text:

“Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump

California, under the leadership of Radical Left Democrat Gavin Newscum, continues to ILLEGALLY allow "MEN TO PLAY IN WOMEN'S SPORTS." This week a transitioned Male athlete, at a major event, won "everything," and is now qualified to compete in the "State Finals" next weekend. As a Male, he was a less than average competitor. As a Female, this transitioned person is practically unbeatable. THIS IS NOT FAIR, AND TOTALLY DEMEANING TO WOMEN AND GIRLS.
Please be hereby advised that large scale Federal Funding will be held back, maybe permanently, if the Executive Order on this subject matter is not adhered to. The Governor, himself, said it is "UNFAIR." I will speak to him today to find out which way he wants to go??? In the meantime I am ordering local authorities, if necessary, to not allow the transitioned person to compete in the State Finals. This is a totally ridiculous situation!!!

My grandfather fought in WWII against the mindset Miller’s advocating. It’s not patriotism—it’s fear, cruelty, and something far more dangerous than any foreign threat: the loss of our own humanity. We’ve seen this before. Call it what it is: it’s fascism, wrapped in our flag and aimed at a cradle.

I can’t stress this enough: “If you are a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, you do not have to answer questions about your religious beliefs and practices or political opinions, and you cannot be denied entry to the United States for declining to answer such questions.” tinyurl.com/4hjb3bhc
From a screenshot of the ACLU website:

“Q:
Can U.S. customs officers ask questions about my religious beliefs and practices or political opinions?

A:
Religious and political beliefs and associations are protected by the First Amendment. Customs officers have sometimes asked travelers about their religious affiliation, religious practices, association with religious institutions, and political opinions. The travelers targeted for such questioning have often been Muslim. Questioning individuals about their religious and political beliefs, associations, and practices can infringe upon rights guaranteed by the Constitution and federal law — these rights are not surrendered at the border. If you are a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, you do not have to answer questions about your religious beliefs and practices or political opinions, and you cannot be denied entry to the United States for declining to answer such questions. If customs officers persist in asking you such questions, you can request to see a supervisor.”

7/ Growing up, many of us had examples of real leadership, including fictional characters with genuine lessons: like actor Peter Cullen’s “strong enough to be gentle” principle behind Optimus Prime, the heroic leader in the Transformers cartoon series.
