Fossil Fact Friday! The famous “Fighting Dinosaurs” fossil preserves a Velociraptor & Protoceratops locked in combat, frozen in time by a sudden burial about 75 million years ago. Scientists think the two animals may have been buried alive by a collapsing sand dune or another rapid sediment event.

🦖 Fossil Fact Friday! One of the most famous dinosaur silhouettes in pop culture was inspired by a real fossil! The Jurassic Park logo was based on AMNH 5027, a T. rex specimen at the American Museum of Natural History. Even a distinctive bump on the skull made its way into the iconic design.

🦖 Fun Fossil Fact Friday! Some fossils can literally explode! When pyrite - better known as "fool's gold" - forms inside or around a fossil, it can break down over time and produce sulfuric acid. The resulting chemical reaction can cause fossils to crack, crumble, or even break apart 💥
