Here in Southeast Alaska there are really pronounced seasons. Fall is a special time of year for foraging and subsistence harvesting. First I will focus on seafood. I plan to harvest fish, shrimp and crab. I preserve my catch a variety of ways depending on how I want to use it.

For me the 2026 guiding season is over so I have been doing a little foraging. Recently I picked some Labrador Tea and dried it. Picking some mushrooms and cooking up delicious meals with them. Smoked and canned a bunch of Sockeye Salmon from the freezer while the rain rolls through.
