I hope you’ll forgive me if I don’t try to describe our 3rd Booker nom. As a gay man w/ familial trauma, I had to read this in 10-20 page increments, then rest my soul for a bit. (Many tears were shed while reading.) A brilliant, incandescent novel, wholly worthy of winning. Flawless. #booksky

Our 2nd nom. is a masterclass on loneliness & anomie. Artie loves his family & his students, but he doesn’t love life. How can he anchor himself when everyone is lost at sea, & what is lost to silence? A worthy, if disheartening, contender for the Booker. Be advised: highly political. #booksky

Our first Booker nominee is… interesting 🤔 The poetic nature of the writing is a plus, but the schismatic plot confuses. The scenes are lustrous in description, but the climax is (I feel) accidentally unclear. I honestly think it would be a contentious decision if it wins. “B-/C+” #booksky

Marvel has nothing on @emilymandel.bsky.social’s ability to build multiverses. Playing with space, while flowing back and forth in time, this novel follows “doubled” characters who become lost in each others’ realities. The very nature of selfhood is at stake in this dazzling work. #booksky

I'm so glad I stumbled onto this incredible play. Written in the style of a Greek tragedy, this meditation on trauma & grief stuns with a simplicity that perfectly encapsulates the difficulty of love & loss. Profound, but not preachy; angry, but not bitter. Theatre at its best. #booksky #theatre

The latest "Ana & Din" mystery is as riveting as any, even as the series' themes get darker. All fans of mystery, fantasy, & "The Last of Us" will love this blood soaked thriller. Fans of this series will also enjoy the further fleshing out of Bennett's fantasy world. A fantastic, A+ read! #booksky

Out this week in paperback, this gem shows us the capacity a single person has to change another’s life: for the better & in an instant. This novel reminds us to always hold onto hope & to enjoy the scenery of life, even if our trail gets a little bumpy. A+ #booksky @huxleyandhiro.bsky.social

Sending this out to whoever needs to see it: It's okay if you read slowly, there's no great victory in being able to read quickly, everyone kind of has their own reading speed, and that's perfectly fine. I'm just really happy you're reading. I hope it gives you joy at any pace. Thank you!

A story told as much by what isn’t said, this is a brutal ride taking us to a terrifying conclusion & yet, a must-read. Justly compared to Hemingway, Szalay has given us one of the greatest “outsider’s story” ever. István will haunt you; you’ll be grateful for the privilege. ❤️‍🩹 #booksky

Y’all, I am SHOOK! Based on real events from the author’s life, the grandchildren of Holocaust survivors are sent to a Jewish nature camp where their sadistic counselor “preps” them to survive the next pogrom. A superb analysis of generational trauma. (& fans of Modiano will love it) #booksky

I honestly don’t know how to describe this book, except to say it’s a weird (but successful) blend of thriller, sci-fi, & fantasy. That can’t be easy, but Kracht makes it appear so. Do yourself a favor & join these heroes on their otherworldly journey. Out 7-14. #booksky @huxleyandhiro.bsky.social

Racism. There was an effort to pass universal healthcare in the States decades ago, but Southern politicians killed it because it would have been provided to People of Color. We are all of us living under this medical Sword of Damocles because of racism.
