Not only should they pay for grid upgrades but they should pay for their own new clean energy sources. People don't realize that many gas power plants would never have to be built were it not for data centers. So, if you want the energy, make it clean and pay for it, or partner with utilities on it.

This happened today at about 3rd Ave and Van Buren. I can't say 100% that this dump truck fire was started by a lithium battery that somebody threw away after being told 1,459 times NOT to throw batteries in the trash. But it checks out. Trucks like this cost at least $300,000. 🧵

Last year, Australia installed over 100,000 batteries on people's homes in what is called a "virtual power plant." They offset over 1,000MW of otherwise-needed new capacity. This stabilizes the grid and makes is even easier to support clean energy. We need this in Arizona now.
