Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 29/09/2026We got a game-winning wind-aided homer in the first game of the playoffs in Atlanta, so that was exciting. My hopes are pretty low for the second game of the playoffs in Houston. 011

Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I saw Justin Verlander's first game in Oakland, on April 18 2006. I distinctly remember it for the scoreboard overflowing from the name length of the winning and losing pitchers. Poor Justin Duchscherer and his superfluous ER. I blogged about it here: catfishstew.baseballtoaster.com/archives/353... 071
Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Yesterday was, by several measures, the windiest day in all of @weatherapplied.com MLB data. When you have a nor'easter, and your ballparks face northeast, the winds are going to come in over the shorter structures in the outfield, and knock back fly balls toward home plate with less obstruction. 012

Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 14/09/2026We @weatherapplied.com forecast #MNF #Broncos @ #Chiefs tonight with 91st percentile FG impact. Only 9% of games see wind move FGs more. The path indicates where wind moves a center-aim FG at each distance from 20-70 yds, northwest end zone. A 48 yd FG hits the left upright. Longer FGs miss left. 152

Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 07/09/2026Yes, the Lux drive had a very similar wind direction to tonight. We at @weatherapplied.com didn't have sensors installed at Dodger Stadium back then, but we estimated Lux's drive got pushed back 35 feet by the wind. It was over twice as windy on that night (about 24 mph) than it is tonight, though. 131
Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 07/09/202699% of the time Dodger Stadium weather is just plain boring. Today is the other 1%. Not just for the rain, but for the wind direction. Dodger Stadium behaves like Wrigley Field when the wind blows in over the LF bleachers like today. But that only happens once every couple years during the season. 2524

Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 19/07/2026At 2:10 PM ET, Newark Airport reported a 310° NW wind with a 28 mph gust. 310° is NY NJ Stadium's chaos direction. At 28 mph, south end goal kicks (camera R-to-L) would blow it 8 ft (2.6 m) farther, and 17 ft (5.2 m) sideways. By contrast, nearby 330° is almost calm on the field. #WorldCup #ESPARG 031
Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 16/07/2026Since @weatherapplied.com has Citi Field modeled, I was hoping I could give some wind insights about this game, but even though there's about 10 mph winds outside the stadium, the wind on the field is only about 1-2 mph. I don't know no wind is good or bad when the air is full of smoke particles. 000

Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 04/07/2026The same comparison occurred to me. The worst part is, I’m not sure I want to watch any more of this World Cup because there’s no way the sequels will be as good as the original. 010
Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 02/07/202670 F (21 C) temps, 340 NNW 18 mph winds for #USA-#BIH. That's a wind that hits the scoreboard on the north side. On the field, there's a 1-5 mph swirling clockwise eddy on the north side (left on TV), and a 5-10 mph crosswind on the south (right on TV side). 084
Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 30/06/2026The country that lies farther west has won all four games in the round of 32. I am hereby reestablishing the Kalmar Union to help Norway and Sweden in tomorrow's matchups. That's as good a reason to lay claim to Greenland as any. 020
Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 29/06/2026There's an article here about PNC Park that mentions @weatherapplied.com. Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 23/06/2026Levi's weather report at kickoff for Jordan vs Algeria: 333 degree NNW wind, 16 mph. At field level, this means 1-5 mph winds, with a clockwise eddy on the north (left to camera) side of the field centered at the top of the 18 yard box. The south (right) side of the field has a crosswind. 041
Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 22/06/2026Fun fact: not infrequently, I mistype "Weather Applied" as "Weather Appier." That makes me think of a time during a 2000 ALDS pregame warmup, where New York Yankees players were in the outfield, taking turns to see which one of them could imitate Kevin Appier's distinctive pitching motion the best. 020
Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 20/06/2026There’s a reasonable chance that USA will play against Sweden on July 1 at Levi’s^H^H^H^H^H San Francisco Bay Area Stadium. I can’t go, but that would be a helluva thing for a Bay Area Swedish-American to miss. 030
Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 20/06/2026Weather at the start of #PAR vs #TUR : 68.8 F (20 C). Wind: 15 mph from a quite unusual for Santa Clara in the summer: 120 ESE wind direction. At field level, that creates a 5 mph crosswind on the north side (left on TV) and a headwind for Paraguay while defending the south side (right on TV). 000

Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 19/06/2026Yes, and @weatherapplied.com also supplies pitch-by-pitch temperature and pressure to MLB. I could be wrong, but I don't think that's made its way into the drag calculations, either. 110
Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 19/06/2026I'd take Savant's drag numbers with a grain of salt, because the calculation uses velocity relative to the ground instead of velocity relative to the air. To use the latter, you need pitch head/tailwinds, which @weatherapplied.com supplies to MLB but hasn't yet been incorporated into Savant's drag. 220
Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 17/06/2026The weather at kickoff inside "San Francisco Bay Area Stadium" for #AUT vs #JOR is 63 F (17 C), with 13 mph (21 kph) winds from 334° NNW, according to our @weatherapplied.com data. 101
Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 17/06/2026I guess if I put Sweden's 5-1 win in the middle, I can get some 4-1 victory symmetry by putting USA on one side and Norway, which I consider my third country because my mom was born there, on the other. 000
Ken Arneson @kenarneson.bsky.social · 15/06/2026Here I was all prepared to post how cool it was for this dual citizen that both USA and Sweden won their first games 4-1, but then Sweden had to go and score another one right at the end to ruin the symmetry. 050
