A book review, 5 stars, that reads so sweet and lovely i couldn't put it down. I absolutely loved this book and I highly recommend it for anyone like me who loves reading about historical sapphic romances. Made me cry a little at the end, but they were good tears.

Time seemed to stop as she looked at the official document. It was the formal embodiment of the biggest mistake she had ever made, and she felt like she was fundamentally changed from the person she was when she signed it. That Virginia had looked at the future awaiting her with such trepidation that, in order to go through with it, she’d had to convince herself that feeling was enthusiasm instead. That Virginia had, however reluctantly, severed the connection with the part of herself that wanted joy because it seemed like such a silly desire. That Virginia was not the person she wanted to be, and now, on the precipice of something radically better, finally feeling hope and true excitement for the future, she despised the version of herself that had submitted to the contract in her hand.

In A Soft Place to Land, Virginia and Elaine are each out of their depth. It's the 1950s, and Virginia, whose lifelong goal was to find a husband, chooses to leave her marriage after only a few hours. Suddenly, she's homeless and has committed an offense that, for the time, was social treason.

MCs have names when I start writing. Side characters often have placeholders ("[NAME]") or names that get changed. In my current WIP, I adjusted the age of a side character by ~10 years, and I updated her name to something more appropriate for the decade she was born. #writingcommunity #wip

I wrote a little as a child (never finished anything), and then I wrote a little bit of fanfic back in the LiveJournal days. The most "successful" piece was short, around 300 words maybe, and received comments like "this was weird and uncomfortable but also kind of hot" 🫠🤣
