The road is set for my departure from Huntly on what seems likely to be my final trip on an HST in regular service. 43182 and 43015 (out of sight) are doing the honours.

A couple of parting shots from Keith, the disused platform is on the former line to Dufftown, sadly the track is truncated just behind me and doesn't connect to the heritage railway. Keith signalbox is in the distance with an array of semaphore signals. 158722 provided the means for my departure.

A big thank you to whoever tipped off @scotrailtrains.bsky.social I was visiting my 1000th UK rail station this morning, as they've very kindly renamed it in my honour!

One station away from # 1000 now. Aberdeen and Kintore were numbers 998 and 999;on what has so far been a very clement September morning.

Stuart has started his latest walk, this time walking to every station between Kings Cross and Inverness. It is in aid of the Samaritans, a really worthy cause, so please follow the link and contribute if you can.

12 days until I walk the full route of the LNER Highland Chieftain! Wednesday 2nd September I leave London Kings Cross… hopefully I’ll be arriving at this fine view point in Newcastle on the 17th! This will be the half way point of the walk. www.justgiving.com/page/highlan...

A very kind #LondonOverground driver saw me taking a photo of his train before departure at Cheshunt and invited me to have a look in the cab, and try the seat! A bit different to sitting behind the driver in a 1st generation DMU; a few more controls these days!

A side quest from the BLS tour to the West Somerset Railway today was a rare chance to cover all available track at the Norton Fitzwarren triangle in the WSR's class 115 DMU. The driver clearly wasn't going to let some stabled wagons stop him getting as far as we could in the bay platform!

An interesting day ahead, having travelled to Redhill to get on the @hastingsdiesels.co.uk DEMU operated today by the BLS to Minehead via Reading & Worcester. Running as set number 1013 today in 6-car formation.

Clearly the driver of the charter must also be an enthusiast; for the operational stop at Spalding with the brief photographic opportunity, they stopped far enough short of the platform end signal to allow room for the photos.

Sad news from the Midland Main Line south of Bedford yesterday evening. My thoughts are with the family and friends of the driver who has sadly passed away, and I hope none of the injuries sustained by the passengers prove to be too serious.

I now have a new #1 station among those I've visited: supplanting Avoncliff into top spot is Dolau. The locals put loads of effort into presenting it beautifully, and it is just so peaceful. The railwayana and the display in the waiting shelter tipped the balance. And even a visitor's book!

Four request stops on the Cambrian coast line ✅ Morfa Mawddach, Tonfanau, Pensarn and Llanbedr. Also who knew that visiting as many stations as possible would involve so much walking?

It's not often I get the chance to experience a loco + coaches on a service train, so I enjoyed 67025 between Newport & Shrewsbury after yesterday's diet of class 197 units.

The main destination today was Betws-y-Coed, one of mum's top two places anywhere, along with Weymouth. Sadly, it seems the adjacent museum and miniature railway haven't updated their website in a while, as they no longer open on Wednesdays. 197007 does the honours.

Conwy was more of a side quest today, I've long wanted to get a picture of a train going through the skew arch next to the station. The weather thankfully stayed dry for the walk past the castle to Llandudno Junction.

1st target of the day was LlanfairPG, as much a tourist magnet now as it was when the name was contrived in the 1860s for that purpose. We visited during a family holiday in 1984 and I still have the souvenir platform ticket. Of note are the manual crossing gates a short distance from the station.

Today is the 9th anniversary of my dear mum passing away, and I try to mark it each year with a trip to places she loved. Two targets in North Wales later today; 197114 is taking me from Cardiff on the lengthy 2nd leg of today's journey.
