With 45 days to go to elections, 2 campaigners have knocked on our door. One was a candidate herself (Democrat, for state House). Had a nice chat with her, my wife and our daughter, who stopped by mid-visit. The other was a young man representing a Trump-affiliated PAC. He retreated in disarray.

Things I should have anticipated 6 decades ago: Hearing "Louie Louie" piped in at my local Kroger.

Me, watching Star Trek TNG: "This Endar dude's gonna be a piece of work." Also me: "Hey, it's the Junior Mint guy from Seinfeld!"

Charles cracked 4, maybe 5 jokes and all of a sudden he's the next Shecky Greene.

I figured the sub-2:00 marathon would happen in my lifetime, but still ... just an amazing feat.

Nothing like using "bigly" to bail me out in @nytimes.com Letter Boxed.

Comically early Cincinnati Enquirer print deadlines lead to lots of head-scratching moments. Leading the Sports section the day after Opening Day with a photo of a 98% empty Great American Ball ranks right up there.

Reminiscent of the classic "War dims hopes for peace" headline.

Maybe John Kennedy Toole actually invented Festivus. From "A Confederacy of Dunces": "Mrs. Levy always compiled not a gift list but rather a list of the injustices and brutalities she had suffered since August."

Step 1: Solve NYT Letter Boxed. Step 2: Look up the word that clinched it for you so you can see what the heck it means.

@mudlarklives.bsky.social First time for basketball here in 40+ years. A different view than I enjoyed 1968-72 (and later) but it was OK. Benches are still on the ends.

It had been too long between river outings, so a visit to Cincinnati by my counterpart grandfather (is that the proper term?) provided the perfect opportunity. I snapped a quick photo of Jeorg Zuend and our grandson, Luca, as the Little Miami tried its best to spin me around.

Enjoyed Mason Community Players' "Pirates of Penzance." The wrinkle (I guess every production has to have one) is that the pirates were zombies. Made little discernible difference except to the makeup crew.

Surely the Enquirer wouldn't botch the name of the orthopaedic surgeon who repaired a Reds outfielder's broken arm, right?

This whole Frisch's / Big Boy thing would have gone down a lot easier if they had just announced the plan in the beginning. The way it developed was, as the kids say, suss.

Interesting that UC prez shrugs off the restroom signs as an "error." Having worked there, I know that nothing happens/gets OK'd without being prayed over at multiple levels.

From @usatoday.com: "Some vehicles even have a night setting in their rear view mirror. Drivers who have a lever under their mirror can pull it toward them to activate it." That's been the case as long as I can remember, and that's a very long time.

One good thing about Cincinnati Enquirer e-edition (facsimile of print product): Because they don't (or can't) go back into it to correct errors, it provides a way to see the original goof if the subsequent correction is ... hazy.

An icy group walk on Wasson Way. Some participants felt it should have been cleared. (By the city? Ha!) I'm Switzerland re that. Something to be said for keeping it natural.
