Sorry to hear that, but it does show how poor personal experience is as evidence, as my wife and myself had no issues this year at all, not even a sore arm. Hope you recover quickly.

What if Pinhead was a regular guy who was simply inept with a nail gun?

The traditional festive three-month countdown to Christmas has, it seems, begun
A huge christmas tree in a garden centre.

Seen the traiker for Klara and the Sun. It looks truly, truly terrible.

Just finished After Me Comes The Flood. What a waste of time and effort. Actually made me quite angry. Still, onto The Name of the Rose.

Weirdly, I have been thinking the same. As a lifelong atheist it seems a strange thought.

We have the same, but with a drum kit. The kid has no natural sense of rhythm.

Up until about 5 years ago I still did. He has buggered off now though, and left a fat old man with dodgy feet behind.

Average UK temp for this time in October is...13C. Today will be 20. Tomorrow will be 20. It reduces to 15 on Wed but then sits at 16-17 for the rest of the week. #climatebreakdown.

So a man makes an IED and uses it to destroy a piece of government infrastructure that is surrounded by families and passers-by because he disagrees with it being there and gets 16 years. And Sarah Pochin thinks he is an example of two tier policing.

Can someone please explain what, for example, "up to 10x less hair loss" means? Is it 10% hair loss. 90%of hair potentially lost not lost or does your hair actually grow more?

Just finished "There is no anti-memetics division" and my overall thought is...hmmm! A really good concept that could have worked really well if written by a better writer. No characterisation, no emotion, nothing to grasp onto. People who have called it terrifying need to wobble their heads.

The current El Nino is the fourth large one since 1983. Each one was viewed as a "one in a century" event.

I love the writing of the deceased Tregoran as a pagan. When was that mentioned in her many, many dealings with the Vicar?

Pope Innocent III,who died in 1216, spoke of a certain kind of older man, who is "easily provoked", "will believe anything and question nothing", is "stingy and greedy" and "praises the good old days and hates the present." Reform UK's voter base has been knocking around for a very long time.

Off to Tewkesbury Abbey this evening to experience some wonderful music. The New World symphony, The Lark Ascending and music from Dances with Wolves. And...relax.

We had one come in to our school as well. He was brilliant, but this was during the IRA dirty protests and the stories of prisoners flinging poo at officers did little to make me consider it as a career.

No indulging. I try and redread either Titus or Gormenghast every November. Gormenghast last year and I still weep. Incidentally, I read a review of Titus that simply said, "it's like Downton Abbey, but miles across and everyone's mad."

Keith Healing @keithhea.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Absolutely. Gormenghast and Pullman's Oxford are definite siblings. I loved Steerpike when I first read the books, but with many rereadings...things change. Not enough people have read these incredible books and I relish chatting about them. Sorry if I come across as overbearing.

He starts as such, certainly, but as his ambition grows he becomes internal and vindictive. The phrase "the clever imitation of a smile crossed Steerpike's face" is perfect. Don't get me wrong, as a character he is delicious. However, as a character is also drops any of his saving graces.

Try World of Books. I got a hardback for £8. Very strange and disturbing book.

To me Lyra is more like a mix Fuschia and Prunesquallor. She is passionate, deeply emotional and fiercely intelligent. Like Prune, she also has insight and compassion. Mind you, I loathe Steerpike as I have never loathed any other character.

After the Black Death devastated Brirain, peasant labour was in short supply. Peasants realised they could charge more for their work. The elite hated this and brought in laws to cap wages at pre-pandemic levels. They then increased taxes. The peasants revolted. Hmmm!
