Fact: The US government did not GIVE rights to women, blacks, queers, workers, poor people, immigrants, prisoners, environmentalists & artists. The government, like all governments, will always need to be forced by cultural revolutions mounted outside of politics to RECOGNIZE the intrinsic rights of all people that already exist. Equitable human rights do not require permission from the sky to be a show of solidarity among those demanding emancipation from tyranny. Since when does truth require permission from bullshit to define who we are as a loving, tolerant, & freethinking population? What does this mean? It means that we won't be able to save ourselves from drowning if all we ever do is beg the powerbrokers perched on the the planks from which we were pushed for a life preserver.
