i love this fellow having feelings about Pratchett doing anything but cracking jokes in "Guards! Guards!"

In a review for Interzone in 1990, John Clute wrote that the book's serious topics risked damaging the Discworld's comedic potential: "Pratchett writes with something like genius", and particularly faulted Lord Vetinari's monologue on the nature of evil (which Clute described as Realpolitik and Weltschmerz): although he conceded that the monologue had been skilfully written, he felt that it "has all the ring of another sphere of discourse" and "comes close to shattering the comic pulse of the Discworld".

Alexander Bates, a research fellow in neurobiology at Harvard Medical School studying fly brains, echoed Bakhtiari. He said the group “under-delivered” and that while the blog provided more details on what the team did — they stitched together existing large-scale projects like a detailed map of a fly’s brain, a physical simulation of a fly’s body, and models simulating how these interact in a virtual environment — “for a claim of this magnitude, I would expect something that should spell out the whole approach in specifics.”

Bates also said the virtual fly’s behavior should be evaluated against real data and “clearly defined metrics,” adding that the 91 percent figure was still not explained in the blog post. “Also, the fly does not fly.”

What I did notice was Bad Bunny up way higher than 4 feet without fall protection when he was on the power pole platform! It looks like all the dancers had it, they were acting as linemen after all so it fit with the costume.

My question is, is this something that OSHA would actually act upon? I’d imagine if they did, the NFL would just pay the fine and go about their business.

Is it possible to waive away your employers responsibility for your safety?

love @teamziller.bsky.social siding, not only the number of pics that were traded away for Pascal Siakam, but who those pics have turned into so far. It’s a pretty honest way of looking at a trade.

The Haliburton trade still gets all of the attention, but the Siakam trade was a huge bet that has totally paid off for Kevin Pritchard and Chad Buchanan in Indiana. Siakam was a mainstay in the rumor mill as Toronto completed its teardown of the 2019 championship team last spring. The Pacers ponied up three firsts plus Bruce Brown's seemingly (at the time) valuable contract to get it done. Isaiah Collier and Ja'Kobe Walter were the first two draft picks; there's one more outstanding next season. WORTH IT. The Pacers' braintrust thought they were a top-20 big away from being really, really good and they were right: the immediate results were a conference finals
followed by an NBA Finals.
