I recently read through the Prisma Illya manga and was so impressed with it that I wrote up a proper review: tanoshimi.xyz/2026/09/01/t... I highly recommend this manga to all Fate and Nanoha fans out there. The anime adaptations really don't do it any justice.

The new Nanoha series makes me sad. It's just some random (bad) anime with Nanoha and friends stapled on. Every episode I wonder more and more how it even got greenlit; it fails at being a franchise revival and its own content is dull. Good thing my own attachment has faded over the past 20 years.

Tai Ari Deshita ep2 continues to nail the manga's core strengths: Hype fighting game sequences. Juicy yuri tension. Mio being a wonderful piece of shit. If the anime adaptation can wrest this much hype out of v1 Aya vs Mio then I'm gonna be shitting bricks when it gets to the Evo climaxes.

Tai Ari Deshita 01: Now THIS is an adaptation I've been dying to see - Tai Ari Deshita is one of the best manga I've read in the past few years. And I'm happy to say that the anime mostly nails it! The brash absurdity of the Aya x Mio dynamic is on full display here!

KimiShinu 01: This adaptation is sure playing up the blood, gore, and doomy gloom. These elements exist in the manga, but they are not a primary focus. I think this kind of misses the point - it's important that Shiina and Mimi are allowed to be cute and innocent together.

The first ep of the new Nanoha is unapologetically bursting with guns, blaze, AND veangence. The concept for this series really should not work, especially as a Nanoha story, but this premiere was so outrageously fun that my misgivings have been dispelled. I can't wait for more.

Incredible episode of Re Zero this week. It's rare to see an amnesia arc in anime media (or anything really) that places so much focus on the anguish that memory issues can cause to people close to you. Loving this.

After 125 hours -spread out over a year real time - I finally finished Labyrinth of Galleria. I can't say that all the disparate parts of the storytelling gelled together into a cohesive and effective whole, but the Nachiru and Eureka Dynamic is very, very good.

After many years away from Touhou I returned to the grind and finally got that Embodiment of Scarlet Devil aka 東方紅魔郷 LNB I always wanted. An incredible run - for me, at least. This may have taken me 15+ years, but I couldn't be happier with the end result.

Since I'm in a posting mood, I'll also share that I played AI Limit and really enjoyed it. It's an anime soulslike with great combat, excellent area design, and surprisingly effective storytelling. Injecting a little anime pathos can work wonders for a bleak souls style narrative.

100%'d Gentoo Rescue. An extraordinary puzzle game, up there with giants of the genre like Baba is You and Paquerette Down the Bunburrows. Simple initial mechanics gradually escalate into a rich puzzle tapestry filled with meta twists and astonishing surprises. Brilliant game.

The Watatabe anime continues to bless us with the wonders of Miko, this time featuring an incredible delivery of クソ席！！！ from Fairouz Ai. The voice acting in this adaptation is everything I ever could have asked for as a fan of the manga. Every line of dialogue is a treat.

Shuumatsu Touring 01: No one is ready for combat android Renge Non Non Biyori. Well produced with very nice bgm. The concept is intriguing - basically Non Non Biyori meets Apocalypse Hotel - but it's impossible to tell if it will actually go anywhere. Good enough to watch more.

Watatabe 01: Animated and voiced Miko is a joy to behold, and Reina Ueda's performance as Hinako is exceptional. This adaptation makes effective use of excellent bgm and sound direction to replicate the slow, thoughtful atmosphere created by the manga's paneling.

Cute and excellent ending to the Bad Girl anime. I'm glad that yuri media still believes in the power of osananajimi. I wasn't expecting much from this show, but it ended up being my anime of the season. Cute, consistently amusing, and devilishly surprising. Hard to ask for anything more.

Finished the true end in Silksong. As someone who thought HK1 was a good but not quite excellent game, I have to say that Silksong blew me away. It is unmatched in the field of metroidvanias when it comes to exploration feel and overarching game world scope/design.

I also played through Doll's Nest over the last week. Great game - it's a compelling blend of Dark Souls style area exploration and Armored Core combat and build tinkering. You even get to play as your own custom designed mecha musume loli. What more could you ask for in a game?

Finally got around to watching the Nanoha Reflection and Detonation movies. Reflection is a total mess of a film, but about half of Detonation manages to tap into some of that old Nanoha magic. The climax with Nanoha herself is especially effective.

Finally finished the Takopi anime. Loved the ending concept, even if the final lead-up to it was clunky. ShizuMari is incredibly precious. I'm glad the world agrees, and this manifests in the form of tons of ShizuMari fan art for me to enjoy.

Silent Witch 02: I was worried that the strong directing, storyboard, and art quality of ep1 would fall off, but nope everything's still good. Lots of strong character interactions, many good Aizawa noises, many good Monica faces, amazing Monica math rant. This show is a winner.

Geesen Shoujo 01: Lily - Amaki Sally's character - is a fun novelty, but this show is like 80% focused on the generic male protagonist instead. Lily doesn't actually speak that much either. I'm guessing they didn't want to overwhelm JP viewers with endless English. Alas.

Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu 01: A beautiful production from CyPic, as expected. The BL is cute, though the horror elements feel kind of off the shelf. I can't say that the storytelling has grabbed me yet, but the lavish production makes it a really easy watch.

Silent Witch 01: I was egged into watching by the lead being voiced by Aizawa Saya. It's pretty good despite the junky anime fantasy premise - Monica is a strong female protag, and Aizawa's voice acting is wonderful. Also fucking lol at Tanezaki's insane ojousama bit as Isabelle.
