Yeah I hope they're able to tighten up some of that. I'm hopeful that with all the AI speedups jetbrains will make some serious strides in kotlin toolchain and builds in the near future

How much did build times change? When I spiked it in our app the build times got like 2x slower iirc. We also went through the same song and dance of cleaning up the exports, and we actually did upstream much of that to our objc+skie version

After seeing Shopify's demo video I'm experimenting with this in our app and early results have been very promising. My agent is able to absolutely rip through the app like 10x faster than when it went through the typical a11y APIs that most tools go through.

For reference this week our apps were submitted at 4PM and both were published by Noon the next day. Google was approved sometime in the night

I believe it's an option in the play and app store consoles. I've never done it myself but my team does it occasionally. You are allowed a fixed number for year, so you don't technically have to have a security vulnerability but you we've only used them for very urgent changes.

Also if you're a well established company that has a track record of good behavior reviews usually take <1day to begin with

For situations like that you can expedite a review from Google and Apple and have it out in a few hours

Oh nice! Thanks for the tip

I'm excited to try it out! The old algorithm had issues when links were also titles. @androidweekly.bsky.social articles didn't render correctly for me so I had to open the browser

Not having a ton of relayouts while scrolling is a great improvement!

Makes sense that they'd want to design for the common case since this is intended for on-prem where they wouldn't control the environment (for things like plumbing). Thanks!

Yeah, makes sense that leaking would be a disaster waiting to happen at large scale. Thanks!

That makes sense, thanks!

A dumb "pre question" is why is air cooled desirable? Is it a cost thing or is there some advantage to it? My uninformed built-my-own-pc perspective has always thought water-cooling was the cool stuff

I'm pretty psyched about kotlin these days. It is very portable in a way that rust isn't. Also the DSL superpowers of kotlin are dramatically more ergonomic than I any macro I've had to use in rust

A great feature of FOSS + agents is that I can fork @zed.dev and change/add the things that my workflow needs. Using closed source tools breaks that

Are there docs for the js testing features? I'd be interested to see how playwright testing works. Also are there going to be swift-export improvements in the .20 or do we need to wait for 2.5?

Line level comments is a must once I experienced it for the first time. I can only use tools that support it now. This seems like a huge unlock because it'll make some of those tools more useable now

I really like Zed, I float between conductor and Zed depending on how many tickets I have going at a time. Zed's work tree management isn't grokking in my brain very well for some reason

touchlab.co/the-future-of-kmps-ios-… was a very interesting read but the framing was a bit weird. Comparing SKIE to an alpha release of swift-export as if they are competitors feels premature. Also what's to stop someone making a "SKIE for swift-export" to fix the gaps?

That's interesting, it puts it in a similar category as the compose compiler. I wonder if this means we could ever get non-top-level hooks. It's one of the things I miss the most when I go back from compose to react

I remember in high school scrounging for every bit of news about guild wars 2 release information, crazy that was 12 years ago. I'm super hyped to see what 3 looks like. PS5 support has me very intrigued

tsgo uses about 8gb on our codebase so I ended up rolling back. Definitely hope they figure out what's going on

I wonder how many business leaders are considering kmp as an alternative to two native apps. The "default" for many new companies might be something like RN or flutter. Framing it in that lense might appeal to another audience

I have a test suite that is supposed to hit the actually backend and it frequently goes and stubs out the client services with fakes instead of actually hitting the backend. A little scolding usually gets it back on track

Custom scenes are goated but also a little tricky. Ours is super bespoke but I wonder if there are going to be non-google scene strategy libraries that pop up for some of the more complex use cases

Awesome! I was noticing some slowdown, glad it got sorted out! I hadn't heard of Rocksky, my wife and I are huge vinyl people so I'll check that out!

Every few months I open up the agent tab in Android Studio to try something out and it's always a pleasant surprise that it has gotten a little better. Panda 4 feels a lot better than the last time I tried it out

I've added iOS style swipe gestures to a branch of our android app and now I want it everywhere. I still believe system back gesture is superior because of how ubiquitous it is, but I really enjoy having both options. I keep accidentally swiping on our production app to try and go back

"infinitely improving things with zero external impact"? It seems to me that external impact is how we define improvement. It might be second order impact of improving future work or surfacing bugs quicker, but there should eventually be an external impact. Otherwise it's pointless churn

I've found it often "digests" the design and then builds something similar. Maybe there's some lossy textual description in the middle. It builds the "same" thing but not the exact thing a lot of the time.

That's basically the experience for anyone with a W2 job right now at an "AI first" company. I've thought about token cost zero times and I get paid a salary to use them

Something I love about the android developer ecosystem is that things just get better for free over time

Nav3 for compose is so incredibly cool because what do you mean I can write my own scene strategy and get exactly the layout and transition behavior I want without the screens themselves even needing to change. Makes everything else I've ever used feel like handcuffs

The #1 thing that could make CMP easier to figure out would be to align coordinates for dependencies so I don't have to do the song and dance of figuring out what version of an androidx package corresponds to the jetbrains coordinate. Someday I want to add compose as a dep and start coding

Thanks for sharing this. I've noticed that my agent often has a "false start" where it will try a gradle command incorrectly (often running outside the directory) and then catches itself and tries again. Hopefully this helps skip that first attempt

Do I have to tell it to use sub agents or will it automatically do that to preserve the context window? When I use the codex app is seems to just do the right thing

Similar setup as the recent compose desktop hot reloading? Or is it a different route?

Messing around with the new desktop mode on my Pixel is surprisingly good! @heron.tunji.dev mostly handles things like a champ on my 5k monitor. A few more years of tweaking from Google and I could see this being a real daily-driver for people.

Are there docs anywhere for the "I want to add a gritql lint to my codebase for our own specific needs" use case? I tried a few months back and eventually gave up because I couldn't figure out how to get things off the ground (the playground will probably help a lot for next time)

I'll have to give it a try. Is there any sense of what should be better about the new solution over the plugin?

Pearce Keesling @keeslinp.bsky.social · 27/02/2026
Spm import support sound great! We're currently using a 3rd party plugin for that right now. Since there's already a working plugin will that serve as a quick start for the new version?

I'm super excited to try out the auto wiring and cleaner multiplatform support. expect-actual modules aren't the end of the world but it'll be nice to not have to do

Was just thinking how nice the app looks in the video! Just goes to show attention to detail and high quality craft are not a function of framework but rather mindset
