Ever since this blog’s anniversary, I’ve been having a lot of thoughts… about websites! I never had a web presence before, and I never wanted one. I figured one day I’d have an author website, but in the interim, social media was enough. Then, Twitter imploded. I deleted my account. I reconnected with most people […]

You're a jock and didn't even know it

Holy Anniversary, Batman! I’ve officially been running this blog for ONE YEAR! On August 11th, 2025, I uploaded the first post: Welcome to… Keep Writing Kidlit! Days later, on August 13th, I posted an example interview with myself. Then, on August 27th, I started sharing interviews with creatives! Over the last year, I’ve interviewed seven […]

I’m *so* excited to be continuing the Agent Series! These interviews spotlight agents who’ve typically been in their roles for less than a year. That’s because newer agents have a bit more bandwidth, are actively looking for clients, and can help grow your career while they grow theirs. One day, I’m hoping I’ll be able […]

When I started writing picture books, I knew I wanted to write in rhyme. And when I started this blog, I knew I wanted to have a conversation about it. It was such an exciting time, and leading up to the showcase, we were all in contact almost daily! But after the showcase ended, we lost touch. It’s been a […]

Welcome to our first interview of 2026! In planning for this year, I thought long and hard about the mission of Keep Writing Kidlit, considering the best ways to support writers working toward traditional publication. For many of us, that means querying agents. And, at this stage, it’s often a good idea to query newer […]

A one-stop place for all your kid lit information needs.

After discussing writing contests in the last interview, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that many of the people behind those endeavors are kidlit writers. Truly, the kindness of this community inspires its members to give back. This week, I’m speaking with a storyteller who did just that! Morgan is an author-illustrator, environmentalist, and […]

I absolutely adore this week’s topic… writing contests! Adriana reached out to me via the website to pitch this discussion, and it immediately resonated with me. Contests have many benefits… There are usually prizes, like books, critiques, or memberships. It’s a way to engage in the community, reading and commenting on other entries. There are […]
