Catherine Roberts, on the other end of the PhD scale, has been awarded funding to support the final steps of her research. Catherine will use the funding to conduct sample staining observe how post-mortem changes to teeth progress over time, and identify how this is impacted by burial environment.

Amy Heath has been awarded funding to support the initial stage of her PhD data collection investigating how sharp force trauma influences post-mortem body changes. Her research aims to improve the interpretation of forensic evidence and support future forensic investigations.

Just today alone we've seen groups cutting and analysing pain killers, conducting SEM analysis on various materials, skeletal inventorying of human remains, and conducting microCT analysis on dental tissues.

The simulation sees our staff come to together to work as judge, prosecution, and defence, to give all our students an authentic first experience of presenting in court. Its an important but stressful assessment, so we're extremely proud of all out students who have now completed their courts!

Over the course of 2 weeks, on our Crime Scene to Court (undergraduates) and Major Scene Investigation (masters students) our students produce a professional expert witness statement which they then defend in a real life simulation in our court room in capacity as a reporting forensic scientist.

Next steps will include comparing the two forms of analysis to create health timelines, as well as working to 3D print life-sized and scaled up replicas of the remains. These prints will be used to expand our #teaching here at #KeeleUniveristy, and to create #PublicOutreach exhibits back in Manx.

Marie was visiting us all the way from the Isle of Man and Manx National Heritage. During her visit our #athropology researchers were involved with #MicroCT scanning a series of neonate skeletal remains in order to help identify evidence of historic health and disease.
