I was in Japan after Inoki died. Now, I'm not American so maybe there was a big deal around Hogan's death, but I doubt it was close.
I guess you could argue that the US market is bigger than Japan's, but as far as I'm concerned Hogan was nowhere near Inoki in terms of lasting cultural relevance.
